Is there enough sport climbing (<= 5.11) at J-Tree to climb for a week? I have never been there but I may be planning a trip any info is appreciated.

The few "sport" climbs I've been on there wern't very sporty. I remeber it being a long way between bolts and thinking that it would hurt to fall on lead.
But again, I didn't get on very many, so maybe I was just on some of the scarier ones.

Jtree is not a sport crag although there are sport climbs there. You will be hard-pressed to find a wall with multiple well-bolted routes where you can spend an entire day cranking. That said, Corral Wall and Echo are the closest I can think of to that. These are not typical "sport routes" though meaning you may find yourself tapping into emotions not usually experienced on sportclimbs.
I suggest using the opportunity of being in Jtree to expand out into other realms of climbing. Once you have a rack and some trad skills the world is your oyster at Jtree. If that does not appeal to you, then you will be well served at Red Rocks.

no sport climbs...only bolted routes. if you do go bring a rack you'll need it...

There are enough sport climbs in the .10-.11 range to last a week, but you'll be spending most of that time in transit between them.

I suggest you try "loose Lady" a 10a...a liitle runout. :wink: Best if in howling winds so that the rope will work as a sail while you smear up...

Sport climbing at Red Rocks, NV??? Where did you go? DO NOT go to Red Rocks for sport climbing! RR is a trad area. The sport routes were mostly mixed with a long distance between bolts. I don't own much trad gear, and I didn't get to climb anything at RR due to lack of bolt anchors.

i was just at RR last week. there was tons of sport climbing to be had. Second Pullout has a LOT, as does sandstone quarry and even the first pullout has a few.
Could have easily spent a whole extra week there sport climbing.
I must say, i think it's pretty impressive that J-tree has remained almost strictly traditional climbing, especially considering its popularity.

Vegas is one of the premiere sport venues in the west is not the US. There is also great non-sportclimbing there as well. I'm not sure how this dude missed it.

Two routes come to mind, blackjack which is like 10d/11a and runaway 11b, those are both sport routes in josh, also the love nest has a couple 11's that are sport. But seriously there are a lot of sport climbing areas in california, dont go to joshua tree if you want to sport climb, apple valley is a cool spot with rock a lot like joshua tree that has a ton of well bolted sport climbs, or you could go to new jack city of riverside rock quarry, all of those are like within an hour of joshua tree. You'll be really annoyed if you go there and want to sport climb.
