Sure have. Just starting to find my way around this place. Haven't heard of any climbing on castle dome yet, but just got turned onto a place called High Tanks.

It's in the Tijanas Altas (High Tanks), the mountains east of the Foothills and south of I-8. It's about 25 miles South of the highway off of 25E. You need to get a permit from MCAS to get to it (it's good for a year, it's free, and takes about 5 minutes). Once you have a permit, it's game on. Are you a local climber?, there's not many climbing Yumans! -Dave

Sorry, but I won't have any time off on the dates you specified. Plus, I work from about 4:30 am to 5 pm. There's only one place to climb in Yuma (that I know of) and it's a little tricky to get there (see earlier post). In answer to your question, it's mostly trad, with just a few sport climbs.

I'm from here, and trying to get into the swing of things. High Tanks is the only place I know of, to be honest. I understand that Picacho and Castle Dome are somewhat climbable, but I don't think I've heard anything yet that would convince me to do them. It's nearly impossible to even find any good rappel areas for that matter (no decent anchor placements on the top side). Keep me in the loop if anything decent develops. The other concern I have is what the pulse is like down at High Tanks now. Over the past couple of years, the border fencing project has squeezed the smugglers out toward that direction. Anyone have any insight or experience with that recently?

I just got into Yuma, about 6 months ago, and I'm looking for someone to teach me how to do some actual climbing. The only experience I have is some hiking around the area, but I'd like to take it a step further with ropes and whatnot. I'd appreciate any help. Thanks!

Dang, Where were all of you when I lived there!, LOL. Valley of the moon is the best in the area IMO. It's a mini J-Tree! -Dave

Hey, I just moved to Yuma a few months ago and I'm looking for climbing partners. I just graduated from college in the NW and will be working in Yuma for 12 months. I've been a few times to Valley of the Moon and up to J Tree, also out to Tuscon for the top of the Catalina Mountains. I'm an experienced sports climber, indoors, and am now getting into outdoor climbing. I lead climb, boulder, and top rop. As of right now I own no ropes or any quickdraws, but I hope to fix that in the next month or so. If anyone is interested in having a partner just let me know. Oh! I am 23 years old. Hit me up if interested. -Bo

Another bump to a really old thread. Heh! I too spend a bit of time here, and looking for climbing partners. I come in on two week shifts, and will occasionally get some time off. I don't mind climbing in the dark, I trad, aid and sport. Also looking for folks to just hike, explore, canyon and chill with. Need more than just coworkers to spend time with, they don't do any of the things I am interested in, and I don't do football.

I'm still in Yuma and down to head out into the outdoors. SD rock climbers meet up are going to Valley of the Moon Saturday feb 16, and to J tree for the 3 day weekend. Also Yuma Outdoor Adventures meet up are pretty active with hiking in the area.
