I read this and had to snicker about some poor sap actually looking for camping in Scottsdale. A couple of years ago after climbing at Pinnacle Peak, I made the mistake of asking someone in the parking lot where the closest gas station was. The response was, "Oh, we don't have gas stations here. They attract *those* kind of people." Apparently Jeeves fills the car for Scottsdale residents. Smile

To the OP, if you are serious about looking for camping in the greater Scottsdale area, you might try McDowell Mountain Park. It's pretty expensive camping-wise, but it has showers near the parking lot for the mountain biking trails. There's not really any climbing in the McDowell Mountain Park area, but there is awesome mountain biking.

If you drive east on Dynamite Rd you will come to the Verde River and there is camping there.

Actually, your snarkiness aside, there's camping right outside Scottsdale. Right outside the high-end Troon neighborhood, as a matter of fact. Cut through the neighborhood, go over a hill, and you find yourself on a dirt road that takes you to the McDowell Mountain crags - we camp near Sven Slab all the time.
