A plastic 5 gallon bucket makes for a pretty good small haul bag that doubles as a stool, they're my favorite for canoe camping.

Other than that, given the abuse a haul bag takes, and how one that blows out will cost you your gear and your climb, fish bags are a steal.

Hauling gear can be the crux of an aid climb, definately don't scrimp or underestimate it's importatance.

a few yards of that heavy duty material, a few yards of 1" webbing and 20 hours with a speedy stitcher will do it - if you have lots of time and no money. I'd guess that if you had to buy the speedy stitcher it would cost you $50 to make one by hand - or you could buy one for $100.

I've made two. I have a haevy duty sewing machine so it was easier than an easy-stitcher. Both are made form 32 oz pvc coated nylon. Super burly, but not cheap. THe material was $20 a yard, I think.

One bag is about 9000 cubic inches, the other is around 4,000.

The cheapest option is to watch Ebay. People are always selling bags there. I got a Fish Deluxe for $75 shipped.

Theo other option is to gett one of the Mad Rock bags. I don't know how good they are, but they are probably better than anything you could whip up on the cheap. Their small bag is $70, the large is $120

Go to your local army surplus store and buy one of those big ass backpacks they have (at least the one by me does). It looks like a big duffle bag bug with shoulder straps. Sew on a hip strap and a chest strap and you've got yourself a $40-50 gear bag.
