Tele skiing and ski mountaineering led me to alpine and ice climbing. Anyone else?
How many fellow pinheads out there in Alpine/Ice land? Do you ski to climbs? Do you do any ski mountaineering?

Can you get me a better rate on my long distance?
I'm pretty much strictly a tele skier and most of my backcountry time is spent ski mountaineering. I'm one of those sick bastards who actually enjoys the skin up.
The only reason for me going AT is to approach technical routes.

Hey agrauch, got any advice for a soon-to-be newbie telemarker? I'm planning to head to Jackson Hole in January and give telemark skiing a shot. I've been skiing downhill for quite a few years, but tele just looks like so much fun. Also, if you have any tips for getting deals on lift tickets and/or lodging out there, I'd love to hear about it. Feel free to PM me with any helpful info.

Ive been alpine skiing for a long time, but this year Im going tele. Why? well saw this movie Unparalleled and discovered you can do anything with tele that alpine can do. I think a lot of people do not realize this. therefore this year I will be skiing both tele and alpine on the same setup!

Same setup ? I heard rumors of some sort of hybrid binder, did you buy it? What about boots? This I gotta see!
I've made a few tele turns on my AT gear, and a few paralell turns on tele, didn't like either one.

Tele rocks baby!
I've done alpine for about 4 years now but last season I switched to tele. I enjoy the feeling and the finess of the sport with the extra challenge tossed in. I still have to transfere into a backcountry though.

There is no feeling in the world like the tele turn. It's how skiing was meant to be done. So fluid, so natural, you feel like your part of the mountain, sort of like climbing... come to think of it maybe there is another feeling like it.

I've been skiing since I was a youngster, and until I found climbing it was my one true love. Now I like to combine the two. When I'm not at my regular job I am teaching alpine, tele and cross country skiing at the Jackson Hole Mountain Resort. But the Teton backcountry is where I am happiest.
Agrauch, I too like the uphill. Have you participated in the Wrong Way Rally? I mean Randonee Rally. I feel like I should know who you are, us both living in the same small town and all.

What is it about pinheads? One of the shops here in CO has something about pinheads unite, what the heck?? I do have a small head, but a pinhead?...

By same setup I ment that you can use both alpine and telemark technique with a telemark binding. No hybrid bindings

Ok, I get it now. Though alpine technique gets tweaked alot skiing with tele skis, to the point that it's almost not alpine technique anymore. I know alot of dudes use only p turns on teles, especially in the steeps, most noteably Andrew Mclean.
Not for me though, I end up over the handlebars too often doing that, plus I really love tele turns. Thanks for the clarification though.

Anyone have a recommendation for a crampon that will fix over T2s?
I don't plan on front pointing any ice, but need something for when its too steep & tight to skin up and too hard to kick steps.

I don't like making alpine turns on my tele boards either, unless I'm trying to save some energy cruising down a groomer. Its a good skill to have, though. You can get yourself out of some nasty situations if you can make a few quick parallel turns. Certainly saved me on occassion.
mainline, I haven't done the Randonee Rally or PPP. I was in the Valley for PPP last year, maybe I'll do it this year. Strange about the small town thing, eh?

If you are looking for a crampon that is good for general mountaineering and fits the T2, I would highly recommend the Black Diamond Sabertooths. I have used them for years with my T2's and T1's. I have even used them for climbing vertical water ice, and they work great.

Right here, Sean. I've been downhilling it for almost 18 years. I've always loved winter the best and have skied out west in the past. It eventually led me to climb a mountain.

I've been dropping the knee for years and love it. I still ski alpine boards, snowboard a bit and even ride a monoski a handful of days every year. But, I am lucky enough to live and work in Squaw Valley, USA. At least until July of this year, but I think I'll be back before winter.
