A good friend of mine is developing a climbing game is looking for people to play test it/comment and that sort of thing. If you're interested, its located here: http://www.flyingnutmuncher.com/solojoe.html be sure to read the users manual - there is only one crag available, so don't waste money donating to open more. Thanks guys, and let me know what you think - its really cool, I've been playing it for like two days straight. -Dan

It's too hard. My guy can't walk a 5.4. There are no big rests on the entire route where I can recover.

have you increased your stats yet? I mentioned this to the programmer - go to z - characters then over to P, T, M and then up to increase them. also, you need to buy draws, and then take them out of your pack to use them

Yeah, this doesn't work. The energy meter alsways goes to zero before you can clip even the third bolt. Nice idea but doesn't work well or I'm just missing something.

You should be able to climb the 5.4 on the right extremely easily...and hold "x" to chalk up.

Are you on "bits and pieces" ? try moving quickly. With your initial stats, increase strength the most. like 25 15 5 or something like that. (I forget how much you start out at - I'm climbing 5.8 baby!) You advance fast, so do that 5.4 and the one to the left a few times in a row; then check your "character" to increase stats.

I don't know what you're talking about. When you hold x the power meter still goes away. It is constantly getting lower and there's no where to 'rest'.

the chalk meter is on the right, the power on the left. Try to move FAST. What are your stats like P, T and M? Are you on the 5.4 - Bits and Pieces?

With no dallying, playing the girl, with stats 25 10 5. I am unable to make it much past the 3rd bolt on Bit's and Pieces. I can keep my grip strength up by chalking just after the clip, but my power is dead by that point.

It's not very intuitive and it's too hard at a beginner level. Those too factors make it a little too annoying to continue playing... If, at the 5.4 or 5.5 level, your energy goes slower, it would probably be more interesting. You get people sucked into a game by making it easy to start off. If I can barely do the easiest line and can't get the second easiest at all after 20 tries, I'm certainly not going to stick with it...

I can do it by chalking once, quick toward the end - try that. You should be building some stats too check and level up some and it'll be doable.

I was talking to Dana and suggested that he make maybe 3 or 4 routes that are REALLY easy, like maybe 5.3 or 5.2 so you can get the hang of it. Has anyone made to a 5.5 or 5.6 climber yet?

I can't get the game to run. I've got Vista on my machine. when i click the app i get the loading cursor for a second then nothing. In task manager i've got it showing the game running as a process but there's no interface popping up : / Looks like a sweet game though :D

OK - Dana has updated the game. Refresh the page and redownload - it'll make you a 5.6 climber now. I'm not sure about the Vista Issue, I'll ask.

Ok - that helped a lot. Although I'm not sure it's the best solution. I can finish the Bit's N Pieces no problem now. However when I make it the anchors I get an error message about some sort of collision. A solution I may have liked more is to decrease the power drain by a small factor (.9 or .8) or add rests. (I mean really how many 5.4's aren't just one big rest position) Alternatively you could decrease power drain by a large amount when the 'feet' of the climber correspond to the area where a hold is. (Perhaps different rates for different footholds) I'm no codemonkey so I have no idea if that is hard to do, but it'd be a neat feature to see. The second route on that same wall is where things get fun. There is a definite rest before the crux which is really nice. I made it through the crux once, but once again was out of juice before I got to the top. I think that route may be out of my character's league though. This looks really promising, especially with the whole Trad aspect that will be included. That's all for now. P.S. A small typo appears - The character is supposed to start as a 5.6 climber, but it appears as 5.0 on the character sheet. BC

Manual read, 25/15/5 build with the girl, with the "new update" on the linked page above, (which still makes me a 5.4 btw) and I can not complete Bits and Pieces, which is the route just left of the place where you enter the crag (according to the preview) The left bar which is power/endurance/energy... NEVER increases... it just decreases. I tried sitting with one hand outstretched over the top of where the hold is, on the hold, both hands on the hold, both slightly over the holds, feet and hands on holds... and the left bar NEVER went to the right (thus meaning it just kept draining, even on a jug when it would be considered a "rest".) Is it maybe that the term "rest" here is misleading? I would think that the left bar would increase. I have given up after 45 minutes of trying to make the bar on the left, the power/endurance/energy bar increase. I still haven't completed a route. Edit: for clarity

the left button always decreases unless you find a "REST JUG" you'll see these when you get on harder routes...there are no rests on the easy ones - just sprint and get your clip quick. I got the same error on the anchors and noticed the typo. I emailed Dana about them and he will likely fix them tonight or tomorrow (he left for the day.) THanks for all the help guys. Trad climbing is quite fun, but SCARY! I played an earlier version of the game that was 50/50 - you really gotta fiddle with the gear. If you get to be a 5.7 climber, start doing routes to get the bail draws (they come often) and sell them to buy a trad rack and try the one trad route. I'm leaving for the weekend here soon (doing the RRG yah!) but please, if you note anymore errors, keep them coming. Once again, THANKS! -Dan

You've got to cruise. Like no stopping, except to clip. I can't do Bit's N Pieces the first run through. I usually hang the third quickdraw, clip, and fall, and then zoom to the end the second time. That third bolt saves me from dying if I mess up. On Bit's N Pieces there are NO rests (at least that I can find) so that power bar is a timebomb. Good luck.

I clip really quick like z-right, also, i wrack up my next draw when I'm at the one I just clipped - your energy goes down slower when you're near a bolt and not "scared" so you can grab your draw and as soon as you touch the next bolt, you automatically clip it...its key for hard RPs.

I edited this question when i saw it was really unclear what i want... My question comes to this: How can i get the bonus biner and bonus button on bits and pieces or do i need to go via the first route "Cindy's Lopers Hair"??? please help me out cuz i lost a lot of biners in the other areas!!!! and i have zip money!

It seems the calculation for depletion of your bars is very reliant on the mental aspect of your stats. Was using the original variation and got upto 5.7, but you need the mental stat quite high to start.
