it has always been a "problem" but lately i have noticed it more and more: there seem to be alway the same questions in gear heads. not only the "classics" about wich rope or shoe, but also wich sort of biner to get, are the cheap ones safe and so on. so how about a FAQ, prefarable a sticky? as it seems im not the only one who thinks that something like this is neccessary (link to other thread). i would offer to start with a piece about biners and quickdraws, triing to cover the basics (what tipes of biners exist, wich ones should i get, what tipe is needed for what, how do i know if a manufacturer is safe ...). so my questions are: -would you like me to do that? -would someone proofread it (english is not my first language, as you might see) - would someone make it a sticky? - would you send me links to good sites or forum discussions that cover some of the topics, so that i can include them? - legal stuff: who will be held responsible if something goes wrong due to wrong info? will a "climbing is dangerous, seek qualified advice and use common sense" disclaimer do it? - pictures: to say it with peter griffin: pictures are better than words, because some words are big and hard to understand. so i would add a lot of pictures, but how do i do it? attach them to the post and embedd them? is there a limit to how many pics i can do? upload them in photos? external hosting? qwert

Feel free to make this happen qwert. I'll be happy to proof read and edit your FAQ post and make changes as needed. Note that we are starting to create FAQ's around the site and we have started in the beginners forum with a sticky in the general forum pointing towards the beginners FAQ. Our policy is that FAQ's will be open for revision by all mods. I am happy if you start one of but you'll also have to be happy if we edit it from time to time to keep it up to date. We see FAQ's as works in progress. Your name of course will be on the original post and you will be attributed as contributing the original material. As for legal implications, no idea except that if you stick to established facts there should never be a problem. Feel free to include as many pics as you deem necessary. I reckon it would be best to host them on this site. Including them in the post as an attachment will ensure that your pics will stay up for all time, just don't forget to link the pics within the body of the post. Any problems just yell and one of the mods will be only too glad to help you. Thanks for offering to help out too by the way.

Link direct from there. I was pretty sure that you could add more than one pic as an attachment.

The FAQ thread in gear heads is now a sticky. Looks great qwert. I haven't proff read it but from a quick glance the whole concept behind what you are attempting looks like it will do the trick. We generally will delete all replies to the FAQ thread to keep things tidy. If people wish to add stuff to your original thread then simply quote their text or otherwise attribute their wording then I will delete their original post. Best to have all info contained in the first post.

cool, its sticky now. but as the title says, its the draft version. so please leave replies in this thread, so that i can make changes. also some topics are missing, and will get added by me in the next days (or weeks, depending on my workload). i would suggest to leave it as it is for now (that is sticky and with replies (and with the soon to come endless quotes and quotes of quotes and quotes of quotes of quotes ...)). if everything is sorted out, i would change the draft thread to a discussion thread, and repost the finished work. this then should be made sticky and modded. the draft thread would then become the disussion thread, in wich there can be discussion, without cluttering the "real" faq. and eventually good parts from the discussion could be addet to the faq. does this make sense what im saying? and i have figured out the issue with the images: some where to large (width, not filesize), but instead of giving me the error message i get with too large files, they just wouldnt upload. seems to be a problem with the code. qwert
