Does anyone ever find problems with bouldering buddies not watching your spot? i have fallen at least twice on a decent overhang where if i didn't have the crash pad.... never mind i don't want to think of it. is it me or are some people just lazy these days?

I'd have to agree. Thats why I only boulder with one other person. I've found it helps their consentration if I am the only other one around. Plus I have some of the best partners around.

I've seen it before too, but my partner is the best guy I could ask for. We have been best friends for 3 years now (a LONG time in the military since we move so often). Through a number of weird falls and long run-out whippers, he has never let me down - and never will.

I've seen that happen lots of times though when the spotter zones out and the climber takes a pretty good one, most of the time w/o the pad.

it just bugs me that people dont have the respect to do their job, honestly i think i do a fine job at spotting, especially a tricky problem that could make me/them end up on their back or worse. i always have my hands ready to correct them and make sure its all feet first. im trying to teach my friends to climb since i am at school and can't go with my bro. it just erks me. thanks for the reinforcment.

I'm not a great spotter because I loose track of what I'm doing easily. Because of this I prefer not to spot, but don't worry; if you ever need a spot and I'm the only one around I'll focus really hard and will garuntee a good spot. I'm the same with belaying. It's not that I'm unsafe, in fact I'm probably more able than most, it's just that there are better people to ask.

If you expect them to catch your sorry rear, you'd sure as hell better be ready at any moment to catch theirs. It's a mutual respect and caring thing...

hehe, I've learned that if you ask kriso9tails for a belay and he doesn't really want to then don't push the issue

I have a couple of spotters that I trust a lot but if I climb with someone I don't trust, or haven't had spot/belay me before, then I climb like I don't have a spotter.

Here's a story. I was bouldering, and I had *three* spotters at the bottom. I fell off at a funny angle, and all three of the spotters neglected to direct me to the crashpad. My left foot landed on a sharp, pointy (hard) rock, and I bruised the bone of my heel so badly that it took two months to heal. On top of that, after I landed on the rock, one of my spotters stepped on my left foot, doing further damage. It wasn't a serious injury, but it could have been.

I don't trust any spotters, ever. I always boulder as if I didn't have a spotter, which makes me a pretty chicken-s**t boulderer.

I didn't give myself that nickname, my friends did. So it happens that I agree with you. I am not that hard core. I am a fake.

Wasn't my fault. It was the monkey in the corner throwing things at me.

I've had the same problem as Hardcoredana, went for a dyno move, caught the hold but didn't stick it, and pendulumed off the hold. Landed flat on my stomach (and ribs) right in the middle of all three of them. Everybody apologized but I still hurt for days afterwards. Their excuse,, they were watching the move!
