I was interested what pissed people off about climbing. What are your climbing pet peeves? The biggest pet peeve for me is seeing people brush off easy indoor holds with a toothbrush or a wire brush. The other day I was doing some indoor bouldering and this chick started brushing off a JUG!!! I kind of understand when someone is brushing off a hard sloper with alot of chalk on it, but this was a bit over the top. The problem couldn't have been harder than a V2.

When you drive for an entire day in the Aussie outback to a nice 600 metre peak to climb with ya climbing partner for a 4 day trip and he fucking pikes out the momment you get there because he thought the climb would be too hard. What a fucking pussy. It was like 10 pitches of piss easy 5.8 at the MOST!!! Lesson learnt...don't go on climbing trips with people who are going to puss out.

gymbies out on the crag. bailing partners. inexperienced leaders. partners pussing out. stupid threads. on to the first one went out with the normal group to the red river gorge and happened to find these guys trying to climb face up to the crack 5.7. after watching for 30 minutes and noting several falls and every other draw back clipped I decided to help. list of wrong things static rope, steel gym draws, usage of gri gri, and the didnt bring tape to show where holds were well to sum it up i gave the steel draws back and ran the climb out. once down they talked of how easy the climb was(because they never climbed it wiht out aiding) and were talking about taking the oval biners at top because someone left them there. told em to leave since they didnt know what they were doing and didnt belong out there and funniest thing happend everyone else at the crag agreed and expressed verbaly. and then a week later my partner bailed because they were afriad of getting hurt.

Climders that are your BFF when they need a belay then don't return the favor. RC.com people that do not answer the question that is asked. Unsolicited beta.

Although I seldom see it at the rock just on line. I don't like the person who downgrades others by talking about how easy this climb was and stating it's rating. v2 and 5.8 are not easy for everyone. There is prob. more that pisses me off online than at the rock. It seems there are more jerks here than there.

In reply to: clipping your chalkbag to your haul loop with a carabiner I always do that. Often I climb things that are not in the guidebook, and run pitches together. Several times, I have been glad to have that biner, so I could finish building a solid anchor. On long routes, it makes sense. maybe on short sporties, it doesn't.

1. Dogs. They stir up dust, eat your lunch, and bite you. 2. Boom boxes. 3. Boulders that insist they ARE real climbers. 4. People who are to lazy to walk a reasonable distance from the cliff the take a crap. 5. People who top rope the first pitch a a multi-pitch. 6. Bulletin board recreational flamers.

Climbing fees on public land. Only good thing about them is the added pleasure of having poached the climb. Clean climbing arguments (bolt's, clean aid ..ad-naseum) Even worse are "style" arguments (hangdogging redpointing blah blah) Rules against dumping your dump in crevasses on Denali

Pet peeves... Well other people is probably my #1. I don't climb for social reasons, I climb for myself. So when other people are around it just damages the experience that I am looking for (just me and my partner in the wilderness) #2 In the event that I can't get away from the crowds I hate people who spray beta at you. "The crux is where the crack moves right, bring a #5 stopper or your screwed!" When that happens I'm just thinking thanks for taking the adventure away. So then I go to my rack and take the #5 stopper off so it's not even an option. Who knows maybe I'm just antisocial!

-beta yellers/ gym bullshit: I visited my home gym over the holidays after not being there for half a year. This guy I've never seen before thinks he's tough shit because he climbs v6 inside. he starts following me and climbing every route I'm warming up on and screaming beta everyother move. So I got on a route at my limit and he went away . -Idiots/ pedestrians at climbing areas: I can't stand having to deal with people when I'm out bouldering( the only nearby climbing, I do rope up once in a while) I was nearly killed once when some drunks decided to lob a crashpad sized rock off the top of the rock I was climbing. -Elitists: Climbing is climbing. There is no superior form. If you're having fun you're doing it right.
