Locust Grove has about 40 routes, with a variety of sport, trad, and lots of mixed routes. Access has not been a problem in the last few years and the area appears to be increasing in popularity. This area has climbing that is very comparable to Seneca's harder routes, without the R/X rating that most climbs of this nature at Seneca have.

I would love to post info on the routes here, would anyone have a problem with that?
It's a great area, we should share it!

Hey guys,
I just moved to Frostburg from Utah and am glad someone put stuff up about these areas. I'm trying to find close places to go.

Could someone post or PM me directions please? I dont see the point in putting up all the route info and then not posting directions.

PLEASE DO NOT POST ANY INFORMATION FOR THIS AREA

Knowing some of the people who put up most of those routes, I can tell you that area has been kept a well-known secret for quite a while and for good reason. The way I understand it the land belongs to the railroad and they are not very keen about people climbing there. Fortunately lately they have been lax in enforcing that, but I don't recommend posting all the information on the internet for everyone to see and draw more attention to it. In fact in you look in Indy's guide to climbing in MD. You'll notice that he mentions that the area exists, but reveals no more information. This is for the very same reason.

If you live in the area and want to get out there, just ask around. Plenty of people know about it. I'm sure someone would be glad to show you around. If not just let me know and I can provide plenty of beta.

For the above reasons PLEASE:
1. DO NOT take large groups there
2. Keep a low profile
3. DO NOT post all the topos and information on the internet.

If you want to see what happens when a place become overly popular and massive amounts of climbers show up and are disrepectful (not to say that any of you would be, but that friend of a friend of yours might be) just look at what happened at Woodlands.

Sorry I missed the date on the original post.

I did not realize all of this information was already out there.

Anway I would like to reiterate:

PLEASE keep a low profile and avoid bringing large groups.

Woah killer, all i wanted to know was how to get there.

All the information on here, besides your post, tells that there are no access issues. There is already all sorts of topos and route information online.

I wont post the directions or anything, i just wanted to check it out with my partner...

What cracks me up is that I was just at the grove today and there was a BUS of high school girls there!!! Where the heck did they read about the place and why are people parking in front of the sewage building???

To all: Please to do not come here with large groups.
It is imperative that we keep a low profile.

Keeping a low profile means not blocking the access to the sewage treatment building, not parking on railroad property, not parking on local resident's property, not parking where your vehicle is in any way on the road, keeping the noise down, minimizing how much the train engineers see you at the rocks, etc.

It is not possible to keep a low profile with groups greater than 4 people....period.
