Should we include gym routes in the database?

So, with the advent of competition climbing which is predominantly indoors, and so many people climbing mostly in gyms do you think that we should also include gym routes in the database and on sites such as thecrag.com to allow for everyone to track all of their ascents?

I mean, if you lead something hard and scary in the gym shouldn't you be able to record it for everyone to see just as much as some sport climb?

Plus it would give a clearer indication of your off-season climbing and ability.

I dunno how ur gym works but all the gyms i go to frequently change their routes once a month or so, to keep intrest from the climbers... so if some1 did an ascent how could another person do the same ascent like a month later if its removed again!?Crazy And most of the routes aren't even named... atleast not in the minor halls at my place...

Hell yes dude!!
That blue 10a route on the left arete with the wicked sloper almost made me shit myself. The bolt was WAAY down at my knees and I had to drop knee off that sloper to make the next clip! Scareee.

This plays right into my big book idea, "50 classic gym routes of North America". Look for it soon at your gym!

I would like to see a place on this site where I can track my training.

Logging gym routes could be a component of that...but what I really want is a training log.

I have a new troll rating for posts that include a poll.

The post is graded based on how many people take the bait and vote for the obvious answer. For example, on this poll since 74% voted NO, this is a T-74. Obviously, the highest would be a 100.

RC.com'ers, will you adopt this new rating system?Cool

Edited b/c I can't do math....Unsure

I voted no, because routes get changed and are not a "permanent" climb that is repeatable over the long term.

On another note; slamming gym climbing is just as dumb as tradsters slamming sport climbers and big-wallers slamming boulderers. I live in Houston where we only have gyms and real rock is 3 hours away. If I lived someplace where you could walk out your door and get on a beautiful rock, I'd be climbing rock all the time.

You climb what you've got!Unimpressed

Training logs are really the only purpose for ever logging a gym climb, but that should be a personal accomplishment to see your own progress. As someone already said, if you send something in a gym, it's likely to be gone in a month and others can't repeat it. Also, gyms are so subjective in their grades that to compare one gym climber to another in a different gym is hardly an accurate measure of how hard each of them climbs. I could see a use in being able to log your gym ascents for your own personal viewing though, but you don't need a website to do that.

Not to sound like an ass, but, my gym training is less about projecting and sending. I spend hours drilling, doing laps, arcing etc. Yes, it's about personal achievement, but I think it would be great to have an online home for training logs.

(ok, why do I train so hard? Because I am old, I have no natural talent, I am competitive and I like to do it. If I didn't train this hard, I would really suck.)
