All, The 2008 outdoor season is upon us. Many of us enjoyed the fine weather this weekend out at Birdsboro. Ted, Sean, Carrie, Jason and Chris (and several others) have been working all winter to clean up the place, add new routes, install seating (yes, big rocks turned into comfortable seats) and stairs over at the sun wall. Look across the water to the Sun Wall where there are new, great slab climbs. As the name suggests, this wall is in the sun, so it's a great place to climb when it's cool outdoors. Additionally, there are now 2 cables across both creek crossings. No reason to trespass on to Haines and Kibblehouse property or wade across the creek any more. A few reminders: 1) PLEASE CONSIDER DONATING TO THE BOLT FUND. THE ANCHORS AND BOLTS ARE EXPENSIVE. WE NEED A CONTINUOUS INFUSION OF DONATIONS TO PUT UP NEW ROUTES AND MAINTAIN THE OLD. There is a donation box on the upper level. If you leave a check make it out to: Birdsboro Area Climbers Association. If you would like to contribute, but, you don't have $$$, consider working with Ted and his volunteers to do route and trail maintenance. We are also trying to get a portapotty for the 2008 season, your donation will really help us pay for the weekly maintenance. So...Please take some $$$ out of your wallets before you lock the car and bring it up to the crag. 2) Please continue to honor the Haines and Kibblehouse "no trespassing" signs. 3) If you see someone trying to set up a TR from the trees, please stop them and offer to set up their rope on one of the anchors. There are several 5.6 climbs are easily leadable by beginners. The trees and rock are unstable at the top of the climbs and this type of set up could lead to big rock fall. 4) Bring an extra trash bag. When you see trash, pick it up and haul it out. If we all do just a little bit each week, we can keep Birdsboro in pristine shape. Remember, whatever you bring, haul it out, plus a little bit more. 5) Remember the Clean and Climb event. This year's event will be held the weekend of September 12th. This climbing community event will feature, camping, climbing, cleaning, a community dinner, raffle, special entertainment and our famous learn2climb stations. If you are a high schooler looking for community service credit; this is the place to do it. I will sign off on any form for any kid that comes out to help us maintain the area. Also, I am looking for volunteers to help make this years event even more successful than last year. Please send me a PM if you want to get involved. Have a great season, see you out at the crag. Remember...if you love to climb at Birdsboro, consider giving something back (money or your time).
