I am moving back home to Connecticut for a year or so and I was wondering if there are good bouldering areas outside. I didn't climb when I lived there so I am not sure about climbing outside. Please let me know where the good areas are and what the rock is like.

I'm going to be in Simsbury, CT (think Farmington Valley area) from May. 10 - 17th and am dying to do some outdoor climbing. If I can get in a couple days of good TR or sport climbing I would be in heaven. Can anyone here help me out?

Brayton, we don't have any sport climbing, but if you've got some really long slings or static rope you can do some really awesome topropes anywhere in the state. Just check out the routes section and if you need any more specfics, either Pm me or ask in the thread.

I guess I'm just going to put out a open call for any CT climbers this season. I have my own rack, I'll lead, I'll top rope, I mostly climb during the week but i occasionally have a Sunday off here and there. I'm within equal distance to the Gunks, Ragged and Pinnacle. I'd like to try out some new areas in CT... but I can't seem to locate them with the guide book I have been using.

It's been a rough winter... No gym climbing, haven't gotten a chance to do any snow boarding, the only think I've been doing to keep in shape would be running, kayaking, snow shoeing and and recently going to a regular gym 4-5 days a week. So needless to say my first day out this year is going to be painful, both physically and emotionally.

Later,

Sean

Hey sean. I have full intention of getting out alot this spring/summer, as I will be moving to Boulder in July, so I have a big list of must do's before I go. I'm also usually available during the week, have own rack, ropes, and blah blah. I know my way around CT pretty well, but haven't explored any of the southern crags (cathole, sleeping giant, and so on).

General, "Wiesners rib" is on my list of climbs to do at Sleeping giant. (I know its spelled wrong, can someone add Wiesners name to the spell check...) It looks like a decent 5.6 that can be done in one in a half pitches. I'd like to get there earlier in the season before all the poisson ivy comes in.

Hopefully the nice weather we've been having will coincide with my days off and I'll be able to get out soon.

Later,

Sean

Moved to Danbury, looking for a weekend partner for the Gunks. Got cams, like leading but hesitant to put grade since I used to climb in newer areas with soft ratings in the rockies. Was a 5.10-5.11 climber might only hit 5.9 here. Blush

Hello all!

I will be in Norfolk for 6 weeks this summer and I am wondering if there's climbing anywhere within and hour or so of there. I've never been to CT, and am trying to figure out if I should make space in my suitcase to bring my gear. I would be up for bouldering, sport, or anything on a TR (I don't climb trad).

Thanks for any help you can give me! Since I'm so completely clueless about the area looking up routes in the database doesn't help me much...

Hey all, In town for work for the next month and looking for some beta. Suggestions on where to pull both plywood for after work and rock for the days off. Have complete rig with me 2 ropes, trad rack, sport, blah blah blah. I usually run 5.7-5.10 depending on style. Will climb anything though. Thanks in advance.

Sorry no beta for you. I am still trying to find some spots myself. I have been to the gym a few times in my town, but I'm jonesin' for some "free" (as in money) climbing. I boulder, and I don't really do any rope climbing. So if you find some cool spots before me, let me know! Good luck!

Hi all,

i was hoping that someone would know the current status of climbing at Woodbury, or with whom I would need to speak regarding the same.

Any pertinent information would be most appreciated. Feel free to contact me directly, or just reply.

Thanks so much!

The situation in woodbury is the same as it ever was. You can climb the stuff bordering the pond from the bottom. In order to climb stuff further over, you need to rapell down because the guy that owns the land near the base of the cliff is a total wanker.
