hello... so i recently got to try crack climbing for the first time (i have been a boulderer for to long) and forsee possibly becoming addicted. however, my keychain size muiras that i use for bouldering were REALLY painful in the crack. any suggestions for a good pair of shoes (outside of going up a few sizes)?

thanks Smile

Ah, a fellow crack climber. Cracks are my all time favorite style of climbing. My mythos have worked very well for me in hand size cracks or wider. A lot of people wear Moccasyms (sized so that your feet lie flat in the shoe, not sized tight like you would for bouldering/sport climbing) for finger sized cracks. But I've tried them and they're way too wide on me -- no matter how small I go, my feet slide around from side to side. I've been meaning to try a pair of these for finger cracks: http://www.mammothgear.com/shop/shopexd.asp?id=11075, but I haven't gotten around to buying them yet. They seem like they'd be perfect to fit into those thin cracks, but I haven't tried them so I can't give you a personal opinion.

I'd say for getting started on cracks, I'd go for a pair of mythos since you're probably not going to start out on finger cracks. When you get a little better and work up to thinner cracks, look into a flat slipper or velcro shoe with a low profile toe. But don't size them like you would for bouldering. You'll probably end up getting the same size as your street shoes so that your toes lie flat in the shoe.

I started this thread in the past for women's crack shoes: http://www.rockclimbing.com/...rack%20shoe;#1612324

Also, it helps to give details about what kind of foot you have; otherwise, people with completely different foot characteristics may be giving you useless advice for a 'great' shoe.

I love the LaSportiva Barracudas for crack climbing. I sized them at my regular shoe size.
