It appears that a responsible party or parties has done some maintenance on the trail to the Main Wall at Allamuchy. Was this the result of a trail maintenance day--or just a caring individual? I don't recall seeing an announcement here. But then, there is also a new kiosk along the trail--which makes me think it might be an official (Parks) effort. Will new prohibitions-- to be posted in that kiosk--be far behind? Was that eyesore really necessary? I recently heard a rumour that--for some reason--the Allamuchy parks people were worked up about something and had closed that park to climbing. If this is true...why? Does anyone know more about this? Mr. D

Should have known... As I hear it, the trail work and kiosk were the result of a boy scout eagle project. Parks Dept. must not have had any part--other than nod to say OK. As for posted "prohibitions"...let's wait and see. To the unknown would-be eagle scout: Thanks for cleaning up the overgrown trail and raking the area below the cliff. As for the kiosk: Hopefully, it won't attract attention of non-climbers to the place. Mr. D

Surprisingly, I have seen non-climbers hiking the trails there. I'm not aware of there being any real problems with climbing. I've never had a problem while there, and never heard of anyone having a problem. Erm, besides teenagers thinking they can free solo things without climbing skills... grrr...
