why, when i click on "my topics" does the "watched threads" load almost immediately, but the list of threads I've posted to take forever to load? it doesn't seem to matter if greasemonkey is turned on or off... is it something on the server side?

Yes, it's on the server side. Both queries are executed using ajax, so they return their result asynchronously and display as soon as the result is ready. The "My Topics" query is way more complex than the "Watched Threads" query, so it loads much slower. DDT

are there ways to speed it up? like maybe only load the last hundred threads replied to? IDK... I really don't care about the threads replied to with no answers three years ago. What's been said, been's said. sometimes the wait is nearly interminable, especially when I'm roaming on an air-card. I'm not sure if i've dropped signal or what. how would you go about relieving the server of the load?

We only load the threads to be displayed on a particular page. The trick is to get the right set out of a (potentially) much larger number, based on the particular page being selected by the user. Having said that, I am pretty sure my SQL code is far from optimal and some performance tweaking may be possible. If someone out there has an interest, PM me and I'll share the query code for you to review and make suggestions. DDT

Just a curiosity question here, but did you write the code, or purchase it pre-fab? 'Cause if you wrote it GU, props are definitely in order.

BTW, I did get an offer from someone to review the code, so we'll see of we can improve things a bit.

Any improvement, Symi? I sent through a probable solution about a week and a half ago, but don't know if DDT has had a chance to implement it yet.

On both computers. Hadn't noticed it moving faster till you mentioned it, but I'm pretty sure it wasn't this fast yesterday. Nice work! ;) Wonder how it's gonna be when I'm using the aircard...

...and it would seem that all the pages load faster now, even when viewed at 100post/page with those long, involved, heavily quoted and often rambling topics. SCHWEET!

I suppose I shouldn't be surprised, really. Tally it up to German (software) engineering.

Must be the water here I won't take credit for anything just yet, we'll have to wait and see what DDT says he's done. I didn't suggest much of anything specific, just a general direction in which to look. BTW, if it had anything to do with my suggested solution, it wouldn't be software engineering, rather database administration. And, seeing as it was server-side, there should be a noticeable difference when using your aircard as well.

Glad it's going better. We've made some changes, specifically cleaned up some scripts that tied the majority of pages down. I have not implemented sbaclimber's suggestions yet - thanks very much for it, by the way. I was out the past week on vacation. Will let you know... DDT
