Just like to hear what you guys are doing. thanks If you go on week long trips, getting a standard mp3 player recharged can be a PITA. I have one that runs on a standard AAA battery which makes it a bit larger but easy as hell to deal with on a camping trip. I cannot remember the manufacturer. If your looking for something for quick bouldering trips, the shuffle sounds good, if pricey.

i've bouldered with my ipod. make sure you have good headphones (the ipod ones are pretty good but i don't have them anymore) mine fall out easily. i like bouldering with music, it pumps me up and makes it feel intense.

I sing... out loud. No MP3 for me... it messes with the experience. Maybe if I was inside bouldering...

The iPod shuffle has actually gone down in price, you could probably get one around $80. I bring mine when I boulder solo. It all depends on the day. When I know I will meet people, I leave it in the car. But on the random days, midweek, I'll bring it along. It keeps me pumped up, and also helps me pace myself. I dunno about other people, but when I'm climbing by my lonesome, I don't rest as much as I should. I just get bored sitting down on my sketchpad and keep climbing. Trance mixes are a great choice for those solo days.

I indoor boulder with my iPod Shuffle from time to time. While I find it indespensible for running, climbing indoors is sufficiently relaxed/ anaerobic yet mentally stimulating that I typically don't bother unless I'm open-holds traversing or running laps on problems. About wearing it on the rock bouldering alone, I've not tried it but probably should sometime, as outdoors alone I tend only to work on crux moves of problems :)

Get a ipod nano and the nike armband for it. If you don't mind droppin a few bucks you can get nike+ shoes that tell your ipod how far you have run. It's pretty sweet. Also, if you get a nano it has a screen so you can put pics of routes on.
