sorry if this is a newbie question, i know finger injuries abound in climbing, but i've never hurt my finger quite this bad. i bailed off a problem yesterday and put my hand out against a tree to break my fall, which bent my middle finger back pretty bad. i iced it for a little bit, tried to hang on it, and ultimately called it a day to prevent further injury. now it's tomorrow morning and my finger is swollen up, has limited movement (though it does bend within a smaller range without pain), and there's bruising on both sides of the joint and on the palm side. is there anything i should be doing to help this heal? or ultimately do i just need to leave it alone for a few weeks? thanks!

sounds like a bad sprain, possible tear depending on how far it was bent ect. keep it iced and if the swelling doesn't resolve and you still have pain get it looked at.

I also overextended my finger and once you start climbing on it again, buddy tape it to your ring finger. My finger didn't heal until I started taping it properly.

I totally agree, I injured my middle finger a few months back, have been taping it ever since, It's pretty much 100% now, but I'm giving it some extra time.
