there's a new sheriff in town! Gimli's Run, over in the Mono Craters, allegedly the youngest mountains in the US. Kaity stuck it out up through the badlands. She climbs choss well! She began to understand the scope of what we were about to do. It freaked her out a bit but she didn't let it hold her back. She also got a sense for how big Mono Lake is, half of which can't be seen from Lee Vining. We decided the Craters look like Mordor and spent a couple minutes in the bright sun laughing as we rolled our Rs and spoke of Mt Doom! Kaity comtemplated the void and the greater meaning of life.... for few seconds. She questioned my sanity as well. Assured that both endeavors were ultimately pointless she launched off the top and ran a thousand feet down that sucker, fast as she could go! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zT7HtIsma3M No bad falls, just a couple of washouts. That girl rocks! Yes a fine run down the coolest Angle of Repose I know of. We were having fun, can you tell? DMT

Wonderful story and photos. My dialup can't deal with the video, but maybe sometime I can load it and then come back later and hit the "play again" button. She's a lucky girl, and Dingus is a lucky dad, to have each other.

I jsut saw this... I was on a river trip last few weeks. Thanks for introducing the New Generation to one of my favorite gravity sports!! talus-skiing aka boot-skiing is a long time favorite pastime and descent modality. As you probably know, gaiters help keep those flowing rocks out of the boots. She's a total cutie, BTW. Hey are you guys living in the e. sierras, or just visiting? I might try to make a trip out to our cabin (near Virginia Lakes) sometime this fall. Some of the river trip guys live down near Crowley, also.
