I'm planning to climb Lotta Balls in First Creek Canyon at Red Rocks tomorrow, and I'm trying to figure out if I need 2 ropes for the descent. The guidebook says "two short rappels", and I've heard from people who said they "think" it could be done with 1 rope. Does anyone know FOR SURE? Are the rappels in the descent gully bolted? Thanks!

No you don't need two ropes. I did it about 3 years ago and we only brought one 60m rope. [ This Message was edited by: bolder on 2002-11-07 08:06 ]

I did the climb about two years ago and I remember that the rap stations in the gully are just slinged trees. I would recommend that you just use one rope and do two raps for the decent. I also remember that there was a chance for the rope getting stuck as the decent is in a blocky gully.

If you get there and there's a party or two ahead of you, "Black Magic" also 5.8, is just to the right and has a killer first pitch. Have fun..

I did it with one rope and no shoes...the first pitch in sandals and the second(crux) barefoot. My climbing shoes were getting resoled that day... Jer

Only one rope( Even 50m). Hey when you top out on lotta balls- look up and left there is a big varnished buttress with a crack splitting it. This is a 2 pitch climb called- Kick in the balls. It goes at 5.8- I put it up a couple of years ago and don't think it has seen a second? Bring big gear. You descend with some down climbing and rappeling to the east. Have fun! Josh
