Just a heads up...a friend of mine got a $75 parking ticket for not paying the $3 (or is it more now?) parking fee in the regular Rumney parking lot this past weekend. This is the first time I've seen this. The last time I saw anyone get a ticket there, it was the friendly reminder to 'pay your fee' type of ticket. This ticket was issued by the Central Violations Bureau, out of Virginia or WV I think, with the violation being $50 with a $25 processing fee. Pretty steep price I would say, so its worth either getting a White Mountain yearly pass, or a NPS pass.

Wow, that's steep! I remember that they were having problems collecting the fees, so it sounds like they've taken it up a notch in penalties. I remember one day when they started towing everyone. Honeslty, I don't understand why most folks don't pay the $3. Doesn't that money go to maintaining national parks so that we can climb in them?

i've always felt one should respect the parks by payin when your asked, respecting the rules and the other folks using the public space. pay your three now or 75 later. actually it should be 175!

My friend actually has a park pass, but forgot to put it in her windshield. And honestly, I have forgotten to pay in the past myself, so I am about to order a NPS pass. And yes, that money does go the Park Service general fund, so its used to protect the land.

That's a bummer! Maybe she can appeal and show that she has a pass? It's worth trying and I'd bet she'd win.

That's exactly what she's doing. We'll see what happens! I just ordered my national parks pass, now all I have to do is remember to put it on my dashboard!
