Howdy,

Anybody rapped down instead of the N. Dome gully? Pros/ Cons?
What's the wall etiquette on rapping through people? We'd like to only haul the pig to dinner ledge and then fire to the top the next day w/out hauling.

Peace,

Pete

The last pitch is really loose. Its hard not to bring rocks down when pulling your rope. If you're going to rap, don't do the last pitch. People have been hit and killed on Dinner Ledge.

I'm pretty sure you need two ropes to rap the route, but you probably have that covered. Honestly, dinner ledge is only three pitches up and two of those are easy free climbing. Just start climbing at dawn and send the thing in a day, then walk off. Agreed that you shouldn't do the last pitch (which really sucks anyhow) if you plan to rap the route.

Climb to pitch 7 or 10 then rap Southern Man if theres alot of people on S face (which there will be).

Otherwise rap S Face. Don't bother with pitches 9,10 and 11. It's crap.

I rapped the route this Spring from the end of pitch 10. I agree with jkd159 about doing it in a day. If you are planning on rapping in the dark (as I did), make sure you have a powerful headlamp for locating the third (I think?) rappel station. It's not part of the climbing route (located on a blank face to the right of the route) and I had a hell of a time running side to side trying to find it. I'm not so sure that the supertopo is accurate about the distance to this anchor from the previous one. I've also done the gully and I think the rapping the route took about the same amount of time, without filling your shoes with sand. Have a blast! As I'm sure you know, two ropes!
