So, in a desparate attempt to get some aid in i'm looking for advice on where the best place(s?) to practice clean aid are in the washington, dc area.
i've been up and down the few continous crack systems in carderock- but that keeps major boring after a while. not to mention that all the climbs have some wicked fall potential given topography of the climbs
any other ideas. i've dicked around a little up at sugarloaf mtn, but again- there ain't anything really that isn't SLABBY or have some sick fall potential right off the ground
anapolis rocks any good? i'd prefer to stay OFF the soft stone of the potomac gorge (carderock, great falls, etc)
can anybody save me from this hell hole?

I didn't ever aid in the area, but i seem to remember Nixon's Nose at Annapolis Rocks being a popular aid route.

i feel like i'll need to rediscover a-rocks. i went there once many moons ago, when i was still a total noob who was afraid of heights AND his systems and DEFINITELY didn't lead.
i grew up here, but didn't start climbing (and fearfully at that) till my senior year of high school. then i moved and haven't been back since. hopefully its just for a year, but i need to do what i can so i don't get burnt out in the rest of my life!
i'm trying to cram all i can into what little free time i do have.
who thought doing a masters in physiology before med school was a GOOD idea?
man i miss utah!

Old Rag, Va is your best bet. Splitter Granite all over the place. One good french free route is the route called The the 13b. Good luck.

Cheers. I figured this would be my best bet. Seeing as I'm looking for some aiding, I'd hate to purchase any sort of guidebook. Any quite beta for getting there, good areas?
I've never been, but I can easily figure out driving directions, and I've heard there's really only one trail that goes to the mtn/summit proper. Is most everything off this trail or do I need to explore a little further?

You'll need to do a lot of exploring. You can find stuff off of the trails but those will be short 20-25 feet seams. Go with someone who knows the area or expect a day to waste a day (maybe more) trying to find stuff. I would show you around but I'm currently living in Europe.

The routedata base has a pretty good description of the Old Rag. Should be enough to get you in and out of there without too much trouble.

I have been doing a lot of solo aiding at carderock also, I hear that Looking Glass In NC is good for aid climbing. Seneca also has some good crack systems to aid. I am looking for an aid climbing partner also. I can be reached at 7034597748.

Awesome! I thought exactly the same thing when I saw the topic. Anyone care to start a pool on how high up the thing the would be ascentionist would get before being taken out by snipers?
