I'm new to rock climbing, I'm taking it in college. I was wondering where the best places to buy a shoe for a beginner would be in Dallas. I have heard REI sells shoes but I'm not a member and I have never been to one - don't I have to be a member?

You do not have to be an REI member to shop there. Members just get a few extra goodies...discounts, garage sale access, etc. REI does sell shoes, but they have a limited selection, so look it up online before you make the trip so you're not disappointed. Do a Google search on rock gyms in that area to see which ones retail gear.

Yea, I thought Rei lacked in performance shoes, that one in dallas at least. Then there is also a climbing shop somewhere around there. Um, though that rei did give my size a deal on shoes before the sale even started, saved 20 $
