Im doing a research paper on climbing, and just would like to know some of the world records that have been made in climbing..
like longest dyno, hardest free solo, and stuff like that... And i need feedback asap..
and if you guys have any other suggestions on what i should write, please im all ears..

the w.r dyno is about 2.4 meters by ben heason at a dyno comp in sheffield this year

Siddiq, you might like to include the 20 foot rope climb speed record (1.5 inch diam. rope, start sitting on floor, climb with arms only): 2.8 seconds, by Don Perry of UCLA back in the 1950s, I believe). You could also write about this bygone sport (it should be revived by some of the young hot-shots! Challenge, guys - let's see how you do in what used to be an exciting spectator sport).

My God! 2.8 Seconds?! I can barely run 20 feet that fast..well I can, but that's not the point.

Astroman is probably the hardest climb that has been free soloed. Dean Potter did it, and I can't remember who else.

peter croft, a long time ago.
p.c. has also soloed harder stuff, such as Tips (12a), Horseshoes and Handgrenades (12a), etc. kick-ass canadian climber.
also french free-soloist lunatic alain robert has free-soled .13c in verdon gorge. kinda puts it all in perspective, eh?

Don Perry could climb the rope faster than a normal person could pull a loose rope on the floor between their legs.
A few years later someone did it in 2.9 seconds. My fastest time was 3.4 seconds. But I'll bet there's some climber out there who could challenge the record with enough practice.

Astroman is far from the hardest free solo. Comparable is Alexander Huber's recent solo of the Hesse-Brandlier (sp?) on the Cima Grande, 12b multipitch alpine limestone jobber.
Tim Wagner freesoloed a 13d sport route at one point. John Bachar has solo'd up to 12d (The Gift) possibly/probably harder?
I heard of a 14 that was solo'd in the past year or two because the clip at the start was too hard, but it was more of a highball Vhard boulder problem leading to 12 or 13 climbing.

The world record, marks, is around 25 - done by a Canadian female aerialist in a circus, long ago. One arm was overdeveloped. I haven't heard of that record being topped, have you?

Hardest solo?
Some muppet soloed one of Rouhling's routes recently. 14c. Yes. 8c+.
Apparently, he had a lot of pads and several spotters, and most of the business was down low, and the whole route, while 40-50 feet long, was so steep that he never got more than 20-25 feet off the deck. Still, crazy hard show!

Are you referring to my rope climbing post, Misha? If so, the rope is suspended 20 feet above the floor, with about 3 feet lying on the floor. It is made of natural fibers: hemp, manilla; and is 1.5 inches in diameter.
The climber sits on the floor, straddling the rope with his legs spread and loosely extended, hands high on the rope, leaning back slightly. Then he pulls strongly, lifting his body off the floor and starts "striding" up the rope, his legs rising and kicking alternately with each reach. It's not just strength, but a definite athletic skill. Don Perry looked average - no giant muscles. I persist in thinking this would be an ideal alternate climbing activity for rock climbers, as slacklining seems to be.
