What would be the closest/best place to Salt Lake to climb where the weather would be good in early December?

Well, if you are talking Ice climbing, ask AlpineRocket - otherwise try Rockreation (gym in SLC) or the Quary (gym in Provo).

Bring your skis

So southern Utah is too cold then? My boyfriend is going out to ski and I am trying to decide if I should buy a ticket too, but want to find a place to go climb (outdoors).

Sorry, December is ski season. The Rocky Mountains get pretty cold and unless you are a hard core masticist, you will not likely enjoy climbing here in December.

Well, Southern Utah could be ok, but it's a 4+ hour drive from SLC.

SuperBowl Wall in Provo Canyon is a cooker, also the Hideaway (Was there yesterday, climbing shirtless) or the Billboard in American Fork could be really good. It all depends on the amount of snow already fallen and if there is high pressure. If it is sunny, 40 degrees or more, with little wind then any of these places could be happening. Inquire at one of the climbing shops IME 801 484 8073. or Mtn. Works 801 371 0223.
It just depends how desperate you are.

If its snowing, go powder skiing.

Red slab in Rock Canyon stays pretty warm all year round. Might want to try that if it hasn't snowed. American Fork is cold even during the summer I think. Call Mtn Works in Provo ask to talk to Darren he could tell you for sure.

You can probably find something that is clear, but the rock will be cold and makes it harder to climb. St. George is warm, but like someone else said, its 4 hours away.

Dude! checkout the schoolroom wall in Ogden. It faces West and gets sweet afternoon sunshine. I've climbed there shirtless in February! We got bolted routes from 5.8 on up and even easier trad. I got some info on this site in the Northern Utah section. It will be climbable when everything else is dripping wet.
