This is just my opnion, but try cimbing lessons. Pretty much every gym has them. Then once you know a little bit more about the sport, find an experianced (and safe) climber who'll show you a little more in depth about the sport. Good luck!

I would also suggest taking some time to read through some of the previous forum topics as well as the Articles section. To view the articles hit the link on the top or left menu.

I would geet lessons at your local climbing gym and they will be able to direct you more and maybe they will have contacts for other people like you looking for partners

i would also agree with these othere guys the best way to get into climbing these days is to into a indoor gym to find other people with experince to help you also to get an idea on who to listen to when you start talking to people there get some books on climbing a basic book "how to rock climb" is great. you should not just listen and follow blindly to people you meet i have found sometimes people with egos who want to look like "climbers" to others will take beginers tell them what they know which is not always good info

good luck on the climbing your going to love it

I taught myself to climb at first, from books. In doing so, one must be very careful and supplement books or other materials with real-world practical advice and knowledge from experienced climbers. That's whats great about this site! Post as many questions as you need, and be specific in what you want to know. You will soon be bombarded with heaps of helpful info. Finding an experienced partner such as the dude above, will prove invaluable as well...

I suggest getting an introductory climbing leesson, almost all gyms have a program of some sort and afte youve been climbing for awhile and when your confident with the gym i REALLY suggest getting an outdoor lesson it will be worth it.

Okay: John Long's books are very good. If you have a local gym, just boulder and talk to people, you'll find someoen who climbs outside, then tell them you'll drive, pay for gas and food, if they take you out.

Also, clumb isn't a word.

Definately go for lessons. There is a lot more to learn than there may seem like at first. And get some books and read them before you go so that you will already know a little bit about what you are learning. When I started climbing I didn't live in an area with an indoor climibing gym. I don't know if you have one there or not. But if you don't you can probably go to your local outdoor store and find some climber that is teaching climbing on the side. Check it out.

I'm 17 and never takin lessons or even read a book or artical about climbing. I started at the gym when I was nine and slowly improved to a steady 5.11 climber with 12s in there too. My point is that reading and learning about climbing may help alittle but the best thing for you is safe practice. Go to the gym and start talkin to people, find out some of thier techniques. But most importantly KEEP CLIMBING!

Jeez, you mean instead of the $100-150 ropes I've been looking at, all I need is a lil' ol' clothesline?
