Alright, i understand that Ohio is not as glorious for climbing like some of our eastern border states. But seriously... I think that our state deserves a move to the EAST. I lived in the true "midwest" at one time and know that i am no longer in the "midwest" (Southeastern Ohio region, may have seen a pick of a friend climbing an arete in the newest climbing mag. page 14)!!!! Anyhoo, i think its time RC got with it and put us where we belong (or atleast grouped us with the actual areas and climbers we climb at and with!). thanks for reading my pbrs....

I'm not changing the graphic that you are mentioning unless there is a huge concensus that Ohio doesn't belong in that category.

This topc belongs here, as it pertains (I assume) to the map in the Beginners FAQ. Changing it to appease one person is much. If the concensus is for it to change to another region then I will.

I don't think that many people regard Ohio as East Coast. The majority of regional maps for the United States have Ohio as belonging to the Mid West.

I was born and grew up in Ohio (near Cleveland) and never heard a suggestion that Ohio wasn't Midwestern. Heck, check the official census bureau map. Although, per that map, Kentucky is not Midwest. And this site doesn't really align with their regions anyway (e.g. there is no East Coast, per the census regions).

Yeah, I have to agree with those saying Ohio is Midwest. It's not based so much on where you climb or who you climb with, but on what the most people might find intuitive. Most of us really do think Ohio is the Midwest. Granted, it would be great to have a bigger buffer between me and the Midwest, but y'know.

PS: It must suck to live in the Midwest. Tongue

2 hours to the New River, 2 hours to Cooper's Rock, 4 hours to Seneca Rocks, and 4 hours to the Red River Gorge... Plus, we have rock locally!

As far as my suggestion about Ohio being moved into the East... I agree, i'm sober now.

Since you seem to be geographically impaired, I figured I'd help you out a bit...

This is a map of the "Midwest" in relation to the US:

And here's one of the region itself:

And here is a link that will explain the term and it's history:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Midwest

Good luck on redifining the term and region brutha... Keep us posted on your quest.

Sorry, like it or not, and I have always hated it, Ohio is part of the midwest. I have always thought that there should be an added region to the US called Appalachia where Ohio would fit.
OR, the Lakes Region, where Ohio would fit.
Ohio is tricky. I say leave it until the goegraphy books change it.

Thanks for the wiki. I am a collector of useless facts and if you take rrrADAM's wiki link and then click on "population center of the U.S" or just click here http://en.wikipedia.org/...ed_States_population it bring up a map of the movement of the population center from 1790 to 2000. Veeeerrry Iiinterestinggggg!!!!

What? A debate about Ohio possibly not being part of the midwest?

Sheesh. Next you're going to tell us Ohio doesn't suck balls. Kids these days.
