Looking for climbing/traveling partners in Thailand - Malaysia - Borneo - Cambodia - Laos - China between February 11. and May 10. From May 10. - 30. in Croatia. This is my first time backpacking and I've just started planning, though I don't want to plan too much, so tips on where to go and not go will be appreciated :) Will add more info soon, or you could just ask -bernt

My advice: Southern Thailand has amazing climbing... you'll find plenty of travel and climbing partners in Thiland. Malaysia probably has a more exciting climbing scene going on right now but less fun and crazy partying that Thailand. Cambodia and Laos are AMAZING!!! You could spend many months in each country and want to go back! MAKE SURE you give these places enough time... I personally enjoyed Cambodia more than Laos and almost took a job there (hundreds of miles from climbing) because I loved the people so much. Laos has great climbing, not much of a scene when I was there but I read it's hit and miss. Southern China (Yunnan) is really cool and though I've never been to other provinces in China, It has to be one of the best. A lot different from the rest of China and good climbing... new stuff going up there from what I hear but I didn't see any of it when I was there. Have fun man... sounds like a good time. I'll be working in Thailand if you are desperate for a partner you could come to Koh Phi Phi and spend 5 times as much money as you would in Tonsai :) Climbing and parties are great but it's expensive if you aren't working and Tonsai has much more to offer for a backpacking climber.
