More To Think About
1. With the exception of a few specific forums, this site is centered around DISCUSSION and therefore all threads must have some conversational purpose.
2. If an external resource (news article, story, image, etc.) is being posted for discussion, the thread starter should quote the relevant part of the content along with their own thoughts and opinions on the topic. That is to say, you can't just post a link or a quote without adding your own words. It's boring, unoriginal and really doesn't add much to anything.
3. If possible, check to make sure that you're not starting a topic that is already being discussed. It is OK to rehash a topic that hasn't been covered in a while.
4. Please follow up with your threads and post in them frequently. A good thread starter will tend to their replies to keep the discussion moving.
NEW FOLKS…
We are a dynamic community and some of the regulars have been around since the inception of rockclimbing.com. There are lots of covered topics so if you try to jump right in and start new threads, it will make everyone sad. Try responding to someone else's thread first, rather than starting your own.
Please do not, make a "hello" post or thread.
On a slow day 10 people may join the forums, on a busy day it may be 100. It's not a special occasion when somebody joins. So when you start a "hi everybody I'm new here!" thread it's like you think you're the Queen of Sheba or something. You’re inviting the lurkers to come out and toss you up a bit. {see above remark} So unless you are familiar with forum boards and can stand a bit of flaming right off, it would be better to just respond to a thread rather than start your own. Don't take it too seriously when someone calls you a "n00b", and accept that other users ask you to make a forum search before asking some over debated topics.

Serious conversation is highly encouraged; however, keep a light heart about you as you interact with everyone around here as even our grumpier members have had fun times too.
OLD GUYS and GALS…
This forum is for beginners, who are eager to learn our sport and often too in a hurry to browse the forums to collect existing information.
I know it can be annoying for the older members of this site who answer the same questions every week. However, please stay polite towards the "n00bs" and be as helpful as possible.
Feel free to post to this thread with your suggestions for updating or changing these FAQs. Once sufficient consensus exists to incorporate (or reject) your suggestion, Rockclimbing.com will make the changes to the FAQs as needed, and delete your suggestion post with its replies again from the thread to keep things clean. Note: This is not a regular discussion thread, so all off-topic posts will be deleted summarily. Note also that all mods have the ability to edit this post and will do so as needed. We will also attribute (as much as is possible) those suggestions which are incorporated within this post.
