Just wondering what peoples' thoughts are on staying at the Potrero now with the situation between mel and Kurt? Are you still considering staying there, are you staying at Homero's or the Pagoda . . . were you never intending to go to Mel's in the first place?

I am planning to stop by for a couple of days on my way back from deep in Mexico, my climbing wife and daughter will be with me, not sure on the exact dates yet. Since climbing will only be a small part of the trip and space will be at a premium, I'm wondering what I need to bring. Is it all bolted sport and I can leave the trad rack at home, or will I still need the rack? What are the temperatures usually like in early Jan? Sorry to highjack your posting, stewbaby,

Man, It looks like a lot of rc.com folks will be there. Should this become an event or gathering?

Hey Amber, I thought I remembered that you were going to be down there this winter. It's looking like I will be there Jan. 1-3, but it isn't set in stone yet. When are you and camhead planning to be there? Shall I bring the hackie and the Bop-It? Where are you guys planning to stay? I'm thinking Homeros, but I'm still in the research stage. I guess I should have PM'd you rather than highjacking this thread again,,,so how bout a RC.com gathering in Mexico over the winter break?

i'm going to be bluntly selfish and say NOOOOOOOOOOO it's getting more and more crowded down there over the holiday times. i have a feeling that this year the line-ups are going to be killer.

My wife and I will be there for 3 weeks including xmas and new years. Should be a lot of fun. We are staying at La Posada, I hear its a little less noisy at night. I am looking for partners for long multi-pitch 11s and 12s. My wife climbs 5.11 but is not psyched for long routes at her limit.

OK since I have never been to Mexico what do I need to take as far as getting across the boarder? Do I have to have something for my truck, i.e.-paperwork? Has anyone ever had any trouble with the cops going to or from El P.C.?

Hey rodeomountain, If you are planning to drive to El Potrero Chico (or anywhere else past the border buffer zone), you have to temporarily import your vehicle. As long as it is in your name and you have an international credit card also in your name, the process isn't too bad. But if you don't have the credit card you have to post a cash bond for the value of your vehicle or make a cash deposit in a specific Mexican bank equal to the value of your vehicle,,,big hassel. I have heard that over the Christmas break the line to get the proper stickers for your car can be close to a full day long, I would love to hear others experiences in this regard. Other than that, you only need either a passport or certified copy of your birth certificate along with a valid photo I.D. in order to get a tourist card. Make sure your insurance will cover you in Mexico or buy insurance online before you go since buying insurance at the border is much more expensive. Hope this helps.

To get into Mexico you will need a birth certificate or a voter registration card or a passport if you have one. To bring in your vehicle you will need the title and a major credit card in the same name as on the title. You will have no trouble with the Federales or the local police unless you go deep into central or southern Mexico.

I will be down there over New Years. I have heard about the crowds and am hoping that they arent as bad as people say they are. I will probably stay at Homeros or Posada el Potrero. Both of these places have been very helpful in answering questions. TexasClimber from A&M, Ive heard you can get insurance from the AAA website, but I havent actually tried yet. Have you been training for the two College competitions yet. I am definitely going to A&M for yalls comp., hope to see you at Tech for ours.

http://www.elpotrerochico.com.mx definately the best camping facilities BY FAR! Bring a helmet, getting your head mashed by a rock is the worst way to end a vacation

I was able to get an insurance policy for my car at www.mexacan.com. The insurance is underwritten by GE Seguros - info at http://ge.mexicoinsuranceonline.com/. Never been before, seemed reasonably priced, and was little or no hassle. A bunch of people from Austin, TX are heading down for Thanksgiving, and staying at Homero's (I think). We're looking at some rain, probably - weather at http://www.weather.com/outlook/travel/local/MXNL0068?whatprefs=&lswe=&lswa= HTH C ps: if you're there, drop by and say howdy - I'll be the guy coming to grips with exposure on the spires :) c

Two days and I start the journey to EPC via Dallas TX, hope to meet some new RC faces. Watch for painted toes 'cause they could be a good ID mark for RC.com'ers. Someone help me, it looks like I will be leaving the rack behind, whatever will I do without the dark side
