Perhaps this should go to injuries and accidents but its hopefully going to be a nice gory thread with some interesting stories. Share the pain people... Wish I had something to start it out with but I've only had minor injuries that would not have made for intesting pics..:(

What is this? It's not really a thread, just a request for a thread....with specific demands that the thread requested include pics.

Yeah, I'll agree that there are plenty of useless threads, but reading about mistakes generally gives you a better chance of avoiding a similar injury. Checking out injuries (especially with pics) is usually just a chance to go "oooh, that's gotta suck!" It's like reading one of Majid's posts about a hiker who fell off a cliff... an entertaining bit of shadenfreude but not exactly useful information. At least kick it off with something in the OP.

I'll bite... My few (notable) dings: Rappelling over an edge and my foot landed just perfectly in a pocket, with my shin hitting a small rock embedded in the sand stone on the top of the pocket. The bubble of blood that preceded was entertaining. Still have the small "pocket" in my shin. Scrambling down an access gully. Quartzite + Wet leaves = Ouch. Scrapped the bone, feels weird.

I was looking at his leg on the mat and thought "that's not broken backwards, what's the problem". Then I scrolled down a little further. Yet another reason not to boulder.

By the way, nice photo. That's a photo one never forgets. It's a guy named Steve. In "Search" choose photos, they type in "talus" and you'll find it, along with how he did it.

But in some cases the story behind it can be interesting. Like when you spend 4 days stuck on an island, with no way to get back to the continent, feeling absurd pain on your nose and NOT knowing is was broken. I mean, I knew I fell face down, and that caused pain, but actually broken? I didn't expect. Found out only when I got home. full story: http://www.rockclimbing.com/...rum.cgi?post=1684456

I've never had any broken bones or other serious injuries, but I've accumulated my fair share of bruises and flesh wounds. I picked up this rather impressive raspberry in the Tetons, from sliding down about 80 feet of glacier and landing in a rock gully. It's hard to tell the scale from the picture, but the wound is about the size of a grapefruit (covered 1/4th of the circumference of my upper right thigh) It hurt the most a couple days later when it started to get all scabbed over. My right ankle was also sliced to the bone from this same incident. I probably should have gotten stitches for it, but instead I let it heal on its own and I now have a large lump of scar tissue that gets reopened from the occasional OW climb.
