nikegirl asked me this question and I thought it was an interesting one so I am posting my findings here. What is the average age of the members on the site? Of the approximately 10,000 users we have registered, about two-thirds list their birth year. Here is how they break down: Average age: 26 Median age: 24 Less than 5% are 45 and over 10% are 38 and over 24% are 30 and over 4 out of 5 are between 14 and 33 And less than 1% are 13 or younger

Great, interesting data. Will certainly help me market the site w/ potential advertisers/supporters. Would also like to see what we've got under 20 if possible. Thanks Trev. Mick

I don't think the age change automatically over the years? So, we should all make sure that our age is ok! Maltek

By entering your birth year rather than your age, the site figures out your current age automatically. It's only an aproximate but it's better than having to update your profile all the time

Being one of the "less" the 5% that's over 45, and being a High Coach and meeting tons of kids, I have met the nicest and most willing to help kids in my life climbing. Kids=anyone under 25... I have never heard so many.. That's Cool DUDE,.. Fight that rock... Lay back.. No, grab just over your head.. opps,.. walk your feet... sigh.. okay, just hang there for a minute... Kids are just great to be around when you're climbing. And they sure don't let the age thing bother them.

Coach713, Being 52 and working with high school age kids I have to agree. Not only are they fun to climb with, they keep you on your toes and feeling young. Climb On

Maltek, I think the computer automatically figures your age. When you do your profile, you give your birthdate, not age. Such are the wonders of the Silicon Revolution.

Yeah, where'd you get all the info? I take an A.P. Statistics class and in a few weeks we have to do some kind of project, I could do a ton of different analysises with that data.

Trevor is the owner and head-coder of the site, which is built primarily in PHP with a MySQL backend (correct me if I'm wrong, coders). What this means is that it was probably pretty easy for Trevor to simply query the database backend to come up with these numbers - he's just brilliant that way. Hope this helps and is just about right . Mick

Have you ever seen Logan's Run? Whats the age cut off for this site for how long you get to live before the crystal on your hand turns red and you have to be exacuted in a weird ritual where you fly around the room and get shot by lasers? Was that just one sentance? Doh!

that is useless neat knowledge which is really cool! Useless neat! I got a degree in that. Its very usefull for targeting advertisers and building behavior models to program into human clones to take over the world. Aw, college. Will I ever graduate? More importantly, do I want to? The real world will cut too much into my climbing time.

Crap, can I have your life? 22 units, lacrosse, senior project, grading job, and volunteering - and it's not even real world yet. I cut two classes on a lie about getting my finger looked at by a doctor today to climb. Heh.

I'm only taking one class, and I quit my job two months ago. I think I bought a thousand dollars in gear too, hard to remember what I do when I'm not climbing. It should be arriving from sportsextreme.com soon. Of course once I reach 30 its all over. Manditory exacutions for everyone who reaches 30 years old to keep the population down inside the doom. Am I the only one who's seen Logan's Run? [ This Message was edited by: crap on 2002-04-24 22:45 ]
