I am looking at starting a climbing gym in Rawlins and I'm trying to gather info on how people think it would do in this area. Maybe I can get some feedback on this from some fellow Wyoming residents. Rawlins is generally centered in Wy in on I-80 not too far from Freemont Canyon which has some great climbing avialable and also the Vedauwoo area. Let me know what your thoughts are with this. Thanks

I think it will fail miserably.

I'm from Cheyenne and that town "might" be able to support a wall. The gyms in Laramie are basically ghost towns, "get a grip" probably never had more than 10 people in there at once. The wall in Casper seems to do OK but I doubt there's much profit in it.

If I were to open a wall in Wyoming it'd be either Cheyenne or Gillette and both would be a big risk. I doubt Rawlins has 15,000 people.

It's not like a regular population, you know that, Wyoming has the most stagnant people I've ever ran across. I'm sure your experience is the same. Frankly, I'm surprised there is a single climber in Rawlins.

I just checked and the population is under 10,000.
I doubt a population that small could ever support a gym especially if there is great climbing nearby.

I'll second the idea that great climbing nearby kills gyms. When this is the case, the only time you're even going to get people is in the winter when it's too cold to climb.

My advice is to setup something small for you and your friends.
