Hi All,
Rumbling Bald will be closed to ALL Activity beginning the 1st week of February. Chimney Rock Park will begin construction of a new and improved parking area and entrance to the climbing at the Bald. During this time, the area will remain closed. Please DO NOT try and go there during this time. More information as well as updates can be found at www.carolinaclimbers.org

That's great news - I was over there a couple of months back and it was getting pretty rutted. (Too many Honda Civics I guess)  It wasn't easy getting to the lower parking in an Xterra, I imagine it was near impossible in a 2wd.
So the State is picking up the tab?

according to this, http://www.ncparks.gov/.../climbing_access.php, it is open on weekends in February (but not March). i will assume your information is more current, but i was just wanted to make sure it is in fact closed on weekends as well. Also, does that mean it's closed this weekend (1/31 - 2/1) too?

Yeah, I was there in Jan. Parking the KIA Rio was all part of the fun. And yes this is a state project, so I don't expect it to be finished in my lifetime.
