Weather phenomena in old climbing ad

I have a question that i don't know the answer to but was looking for someone to help me. There was a climbing ad i read a few years ago that talked about a weather phenomena in which when you are above the clouds and the sun is behind you....it creates this magical halo-like shadow below. I think it was a French term.

Does anybody know what the phenomena is called and what ad it was? Even better, a pic of the ad?

I think that was part of a series of Marmot adds featuring photographs by the late great climber/photographer Galen Rowel.

Not sure about that add in particular but his website is:

Search for spectre of broken on mountainlight and these two images come up:



There are some great stories out there about Galen (he did alot of work for National Geo and climbed with Peter Croft a lot) btw.

That's really cool. If I saw that in the mountains I would assume that it was my maker coming to meet me.

Thanks for the replies and was able to find more information about it. Couldn't find the ad, but was really looking for the term and concept. I appreciate everybody's response.
