On Friday night , while driving in the rain toward Yosemite on hwy 140 , a deer jumped in the middle of the road and I was very close to rollover my rig in to the Merced River but managed to avoid the deadly impact .

We both made it alive.

Yosemite fall, Feb 7, 2009

I even climbed on Saturday but only did 1/4 a pitch( thumb still hurts).

This should totally be a poll.

And I agree, that climb looks like fun.

Uhh.. wtf was the point of this thread exactly? A deer jumped in front of your big ass suv which has a huge cow grill that would wreck anything it encounters... yet you decided to swerve (never a good tactic btw)...

Then you proceeded to Yosemite, and only climbed 1/4 of a pitch due to your thumb being nearly chopped/sawed/whatever off (which you have yet to tell the story of).

Yeah, so.. wtf?

Btw, cool pictures, but I agree with the "where's your helmet?" comment.

where is your helmet! Was the deer wearing a helmet? 1/4 pitch hardly warrants a climbing thread.
no deaths no life altering injuries? You are losing your skills as the official RC.com Angel of Death we expect more from you, now please go home and google someones untimely disfigurement.

and another thing WTF happened to your thumb.

Dude, you gave an excuse recently about not being able to type up your injury report for your thumb, and yet you post this and you went climbing.

Thumbs down Unsure

In the picture you've got your head down so I can't tell if you're wearing a helmet or not. One might say "Where's your head".

Also, I don't think you've ever had anything I wanted before, but that cruiser is sweet. Please tell me you put a diesel engine in it, as I remember those model years were really bad gas mileage, like 15mpg.

Well, he does seem to have an awful lot of shit on his harness for a quarter pitch of what looks to be mini-traxion TR'ing.

I was 17 driving from Steamboat to Laramie with a friend in my 84' Tercel one summer.

It was late at night, a deer jumped out, I swerved and hit the brakes. At the last moment the deer put it's head down low and I whacked it with my bumper. It died almost immediately. With those older cars, there were bumpers, not molded plastic, and since I'd only had contact with the bumper my car didn't have a scratch.

We drove down the road in terrified silence until Clay broke the tension my screaming "We fucked that motherfucker up".

When I was about 20, my best friend and I took a climbing class at Enchanted Rock. One night coming back from dinner in town we missed the entrance to the park, and for those that don't know the road goes in and out of open grazing land, crossing multiple cattle guards.

We came over a small hill and in the blink of an eye there were 15-20 cows in the middle of the road. One of the cows was standing broadside to the road, my friend swerved just enough to clear it's front legs but it's head came right up the hood and smashed the windshield. (We were going about 45 miles an hour at the time.)

After stopping the car, we got out to look for what we thought would be a decapitated cow. Instead, we couldn't tell which cow we hit, and they just looked at us and wandered off into the brush. No sign of dead cow anywhere!

There was a house near by, so we knocked on the door and told the guy we hit a cow. "Did you kill it?" he asked. When we said no he told us not to worry about it then.

The five-hour drive home with a shattered windshield and no driver's-side mirror was not fun.

Crazy

I nearly killed one of my friends with deer once.

I was 18 and in my truck making out with my GF at the time. Someone came by and put a note on my fogged window and left. It said something about being a masculine man that likes to do masculine things to men. It was freaking creepy and hilarious. Basically, it was a paper version of the gay section of craigslist.

I found it so funny that the next day I put the note under the wiper of my friends cruiser. A 74' FJ40 with a rebuilt 350 in it. Pretty sweet. it only had 5 point seat belts. I put it on his car when he was at work, Sierra Trading Post, and he was reading it as he drove home. Knowing Brian, he was laughing his ass off and probably had tears in his eyes while reading it. He hit a whole herd of deer and rolled several times. Thanks to the 5 point seatbelt and the robustness of the vehicle, he was okay with only a few stitches needed in his scalp. I think there were 4 dead deer on the road.

A few days later he gave me the note back, covered in blood.

Yup, about 16 mpg on the highway, maybe 14 in town if you were lucky. I had the same '86 land cruiser (well, it was blue) until about 4 years ago when the 2nd gear synchronizer broke. I rode it around from 1rst to 3rd to 4th gear for about 6 months until my 100,000 mile clutch went. The frame wouldn't pass inspection and the head gasket between the bottom block and the cylinder block had a major leak. We got $5000 from some "collector" nut for it. Absolutely awesome truck though. As I remember it was a 4.5L in-line 6 cylinder.
