being a climber who is allergic to wasp and bee stings, i've always been leary of getting stung and/or freaked out by the bastards while i'm climbing (particularly leading). so far, i've not been stung while in action, but have had a few close calls. has anyone out there ever been attacked on a wall, or gone to grab a hold and gotten stung?

My Son is the same way. We climb in Cobble, and at the end of the summer, you have wasps on every single ledge and pocket. A fews ago, I was out climbing with one of my other sons and managed to hit a nest and was stung 14 times. My son didn't get stung once. That sure wasn't fair.

The best possible defense against wasps is to not do anything at all, if one flies up to you just ignore it and it'll ignore you, swatting at them with your hand to make them leave also works on lone wasps. However, if you stick your hand in a wasp's nest you better get the hell out of there very quickly, and if you piss off yellow jackets you should descend as quickly as possible, those are very mean bugs that both bite and sting, and when pissed they also swarm

Skupdogg, I highly advise that you invest in an epi-pen (available by prescription only), and take it with you to the crag in case you are ever stung.
