As simple as rockclimbing is it's funner than almost anything. Adrenilene is your blood when climbing and there is no room for mistakes. Climbing can be, as 'm sure you all know a potentialy dangerous sport. So why is it so fun? I think it is because there is no other sport out there thay you can be one with the rock and the outdoors. There are few sports with the level of personal satisfaction when you get to the top. This could be different for every one and i could not even begiin to tell you why climbing is so fun becausethis post would be about 100 pages long. Anyway tell me WHY IS CLIMBING SO FUN?

It's a mix of alot of things that makes it so fun for me. The opportunity to commune with nature in the middle of nowhere. The personal challenge of surmounting a climb. The adrenaline that courses through your veins as you push your body to, and past, its own limits. The incredible, undescribable feeling of reaching the top of a climb that pushed your limits, both physically and mentally - pure, unadulterated joy in it's rarest form. For me, a good climb that pushes you in all aspects of your being is the closest thing to perfect, this side of Heaven. It can't be beat. Mick

rck_climber, what about sex? but other than that, I'll agree that it's one of the best feelings out there. I love the mental challenge a route gives me, I ache to try harder and harder routes every time I hit rock D

It is all about meeting new challenges in which the stakes are high, the rewards great, and the margin for improvement is HUGE! I love all forms of climbing, and if you ask me, a good climb is better than sex any day. Anyone can go out and get laid, but few climb!

Daisuke, Don't get me wrong, sex is an incredible physical feeling, but the mental challenge of it doesn't really compare to climbing. Now flirting on the other hand, that's got the same mental challenge, but isn't nearly as physically rewarding. Gee, if only you could combine them...... then you'd have the perfect balance of physical and mental challenges and rewards....... Wait, that pretty much sums up climbing. Mick

I think its the combination of many different things, including adrenaline, extreme exercise, fear, imagination, triumph......etc.......

I have no clue why climbing is so fun for me, but all I know is that I'm hooked for life and that it's one of the funnest things in my life right now. Everyone at my school, and other non-climbing colleagues think that I'm obsessed with climbing. And, for me, this is a typical answer from people who don't climb, because they do not know what it's like to be a climber and how fun it really is. Either that or I'm just a loser. I really wish that more and more people would come to realise the simple pleasures in the sport of climbing, and how fun it really is.

To me, when you combine all of the mental and physical aspects of climbing you get an escape. Nothing else matters at that point in time but the scending the rock in front of you. That is the best feeling.
