Hey everyone, NPS just posted 2009 raptor closures for zion park. They have Angels Landing (northeast buttress) posted as a closure. Does that mean all routes on Angels Landing are closed (prodigal sun..etc.) or does it just mean the route northeast buttress? Garrett

I am not 100% certain, but the way its worded I would guess that it is just the northeast buttress of angles landing, and that all other routes on angles landing are good to go. I know that when I have climbed there in the spring in the past, Prodigal son was fine. I would also guess that prodigal son is fine since it is on the northwest side of angles landing.

Closure starts about half way between Moonlight Buttress and Angels Landing to Angels Landing. That includes Prodigal Son. But the park service needs time to determine if there are nesting pairs. Last year it was closed at first then open as there were no nesting pairs. Have a backup route and call ahead.

Just came back from there. Yes the closure covers all the routes on angels landing. This from the mouth of the biologist in charge of the raptors. It is also true that some of this will open soon when and where the nesting pairs are settled in and get discovered by the park service. Until then you have until saturday to get it done. Bob
