Been in Moscow just over a year- can't say there's much outdoor climbing here. If I had a choice, I'd chose St. Pete hands down. It simply a beautiful city; has a real European feel, the Hermitage is Russian in scale. Moscow is/can be a hard place. A person going by the name " ndemeis" was looking for a partner awhile back in Pete. He recommended " baurock.ru", you can also try " goclimbing.ru"; they're both in Russian, but they're a start. There's some gyms here, one of the Universities has an amazing outdoor wall. Supposedly if winter is cold enough/ long enough there's an outdoor icewall I'll be here in Moscow for another year, if you want to check it out, my wife and I have plenty of room.

It's truly hard to appreciate how big Russia is until you get here. As far as I can tell; unless you have the money to fly, there are no weekend destinations. Having talked to local gym climbers; the nearest climbing is in the Ukraine. Though one, not very reliable source, mentioned some cliffbands along the Moscow river. I have also seen climbers on the Metro carrying ropes- they could have been heading to a gym.If you have any choice in the matter; chose St. Pete. Like I mentioned- you are welcome to visit.
