started out my day at about 8 this morning and 30 out... drove about 2 hours with a friend of mine, some sandwich stuff, a pad, our chalk, and our shoes. payed our entry fee, parked the car and forgot to buy a book so we hiked down to the cabin and realized we forgot our wallets. had to hike back up, then back down, then finally headed for the climbs. half a mile into the woods and we were where we wanted to be. the hike was enough to warm us up so we took a breather and then got down to brass tax. started out on a climb called dig dug which was over my ability to start off cause ive got a bad couple fingers. so i desided to move down to a V1 off the right, killed it, then moved to the left of dig dug to another V1 and killed it. did an arete climb and finished it, and then messed around on some other stuff in the area(sorry i dont know many of the names so this story may be boring) ended my day on a V4 called cresent? i think. i was reaching for the topout and i lost my footing. took a hard slide all the way to the ground and landed with all my weight on my right ankle. havnt felt pain like that in along time... well im pretty sure at this point that i fractured it after talkin to a friend who broke her ankle. anyway, my friend that was with me saved my ass but finding me a stick, carry'n our stuff and the crash pad while i literally hop'd a half mile back to the road on one foot using a stick like a cane. worse hike of my damn life. he was spotting great, and the pad was where it needed to be but i feel so hard, fast, and weirdly that there was nothing either of us could have done. goin to the doc tomorrow. but if anyone has never been and is considering going to horseshoe, i highly recomend you go! the place is beautiful the people are frendly and the climbing is amazing! boring story but i dont care, i had fun and wanted to tell someone about it.

You have a Zenish sense of fun! Glad you enjoyed HCR, and it is interesting to hear a boulderers perspective. I climb at HCR almost weekly but only roped, looking down on the pebbles! Hope your ankle heals fast.

thanks for the responses guys, besides the fall and the weather being a lil chilly in the morning i cant complain about the trip. even after falling its hard to be that upset being out there, place is just retarded amazing! ill try to post some pictures here in a bit. nothing amazing but for those who havnt been it'll give you an idea of how nice it is out there.

so you can climb there without getting a cabin? reading their site it seemed it was mandatory. How much does it cost to climb for a day? Also, is there a place to camp nearby if I was going there on a budget. Thanks!

Climbing is 5 bucks and camping is another 5 buck for HCR (there are several campsites on the ranch). There are also a couple of National Park campsites within 15 minutes drive from there, Steele Creek and Kyles Landing.

If your climbing any length of time its better to get a year climbing pass for 50 and a year camping pass for 50.

i was thinking about doing a trip out there. hows the trad climbing? ive only been there for the first 2 years of horseshoe hell. needless to say i wasnt running around with a rack for that time.

Yea thats for a year.
If you go to HCR then you would be wise to spend a day or two and do the trad routes. Hackberry crack is sweet. Actually there are a few good classics. Mostly sport though.

well i finally got the the doc and got xray's. nothing seems to be broken but the doc wants me to goto an ortho specialist just to make sure. so im hopin for the best!
