I need some new earbuds and I have a Amazon certificate for $50. I have an old iPod nano and the original earbuds which are ok, but no bass to speak of. So, any recommendations? I realize by their nature that buds are never gonna give the quality of sound I get from my big ol Sennheisser's, but there has to be something better than the stock buds...

Check out the Etimotic er6i or er4p. The 6s will just about be covered by the $50 and the 4s will go about $150ish if you look hard enough. The 4s are stellar. Ear "buds" are the worst of all worlds: They don't fit far enough into the ear canal to isolate or to image well, they are too small to produce good bass (bass is over rated IMHO) and they are usually very cheap in order to increase profits. If you want portable and don't mind ear pad headphones, try the Senn PX-100s. Take a look at Headroom.com for a good selection, but buy cheaper elsewhere.

Now I'm trying really hard not to pay $100 more for 3% more dynamic response. :) Thanks.

I've got some $60 Sony earbuds that have turned my iPod into something worth listening to. I've been picking up details I never knew existed in some of the music I've only listened to on my iPod. I think they're a great value.

I have to agree with the people who recommended the ER6i's. I've had a pair for a couple years now and they're amazing. I love that you can change out the filters which comes in handy if you're using them while climbing and getting chalk all over them. I would also say they're pretty durable as well. Accidentally sent mine through both the washing machines and dryer in a pair of pants and they still work and sound as good as the day I got them. Can't recommend them highly enough. Jason

I picked up a 2 pack of ear buds at Kmart for $5, and my music sounds fine. $150, even $50 for head phones is a sign of a need for reprioritization. But, hey, that's just my opinion.

What an absurd statement. really. with that argument you could pick on anyone, for anything of your choosing. if someone's financial sitcheashon allows for them to have expendable income how on earth can you suggest that they need to re-prioritze? do you own a car? is it the cheapest car on the market? do you own shoes? how much did you pay for them? hmmmmmmm??

Now now.. I don't think it's stupid but I would never do it. I buy beer by the thirty pack and usually pay about $.50 a can. If I was single and had a good job and really liked music well maybe I could see it.

If I was single and had a good job and really liked music well maybe I could see it. It's all in what you take pleasure in. The guy down the block owns a G6 convertible and a Model T hot rod. Spends his time at hot rod shows and working on his cars. I love music. I average maybe 60 - 75 new CDs a year. Sound reproduction quality means a lot to me. I won't look at paintings in the museum through dirty glasses with the wrong prescription. I don't eat crap junk food. I don't read trash novels. Life is too short.

Or is it here here? Meh. Not on par with Sennheisers, but I`ve grown rather fond of Genius earbuds. 20 bucks for a pair at Office depot, 3 sizes of rubber ear thingys included (which is good because, though I prefer the smallest myself, I always lose ´em, so I have backups). They do a better job of isolating sound than normal plastic earbuds and most of the foam earbuds I´ve tried. I don´t really like Office depot, but the 7 day guarantee on any electronics is pretty great. I´ve tried out 3 different earphones/buds in less than a week, no problem. Cleaner audio than Ibuds, a tiny bit more bass, and the cord is much longer, which I find somewhat annoying right now, but it´s better than unplugging the damn jack with every step.

'Course, I think those people are crazy, but that's just my opinion...
