So, I'm on the phone with a friend the other day, and he tells me that he visited the site looking for a climbing-photo fix on the front page, but all he could see was sungam's MacGyver shot. He lamented the passing of the old days when the featured photo was big and 100% climbing. And you know what? He's right. So, we're going to go ahead and refocus the front-page photo feature on climbing shots and shots that have a strong association with climbing. From now on, when photo eds are approving photos, they'll set non climbing shots to not refer to the FP, no matter how high they get rated. In addition, photos that are obviously there because people sarcastically rated them a five will also be excluded from the rotation. I suppose this might come as a blow to some. I know it's been fun (I've done it, too) to rate lame shots a 5 so it ends up on the FP, but personally, I want to see climbing shots and I think the vast majority of users do too. Anything already in the system will be grandfathered, but new non-climbing shots and climbing shots that make it onto the FP despite being utter garbage, like cell-phone topos, will not. We will continue to approve all the same shots we have been. The only difference will be whether or not they make to the FP feature. Thanks! J

I think thats a great idea, not that i didn;t like the random shots. But i think it would be nice for new people to the site to see real climbing shots (sorry sungam)

I'm a big fan of keeping Sungam off the front page. Especially since he seems to have a fondness for wearing far too little clothing.

You are jeopardizing my sponsorship opportunities here. Seriously, how am I supposed to become a world famous drunk who climbs without my glamor shots showing up on the FP. Fascist pig.

How are you going to judge whether a vote is sarcastic? How do you know I didn't truly appreciate the artistic aspects of the Transition/Momentum blurry indoor bouldering cell phone camera series?

The true question is how hard is it to place some climbing in a PBR shot? I'm not all about your bullshit product placement. I'm about a real drinker, climbing and trying to make ends meet. None of this staged bullshit.

Press Release: Doc's Sponsorship Opportunities In Jeopardy It seems that some sort of ban has been placed on the photo contect of the rockclimbing.com front page. This is a user-based site, and the users should decide on content! As Dr. Feelgood's personal photographer, I think it is unjust to deprive the world of such copious amounts of talent, both of the liver and of the soul. Doc is a true soul climber, and if he needs a "bump for the road" so to speak to send the frozen equivilant of Jumbo Love, I say so be it! Obviously, anyone who has had the opportunity to associate with Doc (carry his beer, flake his rope, catch his stoppers as they fall by) knows that he needs all the sponsorship he can get. I've got BD on the horn, so I've got to go but the 1st amendment rules! Sincerely, WMD

Uh, that's fine, but could you make it bigger than a postage stamp again? I mean, you now allow much bigger upload sizes, which is fantastic for really good shots. But... if your biggest venue (the front page) doesn't show that off... it's a big waste of server space if you ask me. GO

That's valid criticism, thanks, but I don't agree. Also, it's really not much of an effort.
