Anyone know how to get a hold of any of the local developers? A friend and I are looking to put up a new line in the area, likely an FA (believe it or not). We'd like to make sure what we're intending on doing squares with the local practices. This isn't anything out of the ordinary, we just want to be careful to comply with local ethics and practices. Before anyone asks, the route isn't protectable with gear and isn't even really currently TRable without some unusual rigging and a long potential pendulum. And no, I'm not telling you where it is. Edited to note: PM, reply to the thread, whatever.

Some places to start: - According to RC.com route guide, AMC Boston Mountaineering Committee was involved in rehab, and Richard Doucette is responsible for working with landowners re. access issues - Patrick Sullivan is responsible for editing the route guide - The Department of Conservation provides contact information for the Quincy Quarries Reservation

I can't speak authoritatively, but I believe that bolts are frowned upon -- for example, Thank You Scott was put up on gear. Plastic holds, however, are allowed only on J-Wall.

I'm very conscious of the general dislike of bolts at Quincy. This is part of the reason I want to get a hold of the appropriate community members, so that I might have their blessing before we proceed. I won't put up a route that violates community standards. As for Thank Your Scott, it is reasonably protectable with gear (albeit R rated). This line is not even close. I would NEVER bolt a line that is protectable on gear.

Hasn't gone up (yet). Long story short, the partner who spied the line floundered. I no longer have easy access to the hammer drill. May go up some time soon. Who knows.

I might be able to help with that. Did you get in touch with any of the area contacts?

The real holdback here is that it's not really my line. If my friend wants it to be, it will be. I can get a drill if I really need to. It's his vision, so I leave it up to him to decide what to do with it within the bounds of what is accepted in the community.

That is too well reasoned and polite to muddy these hallowed pages.
