Heading up a wall in zion in the next few days, just realized we dont have a swivel. can we get by without one? We are planning to fix 3-4 pitches then jug/haul the next day.

In my experience, they're most helpful when you're on routes with lots of traverses, where the pig spins as it bounces off the wall during a lower out. If your route is basically straight up, you don't need a swivel.

Not at all critical..Nice sometimes but certainly not needed.

A swivel is an unnecessary luxury that you will never regret buying, kinda like a nice thick thermarest.

If you've ever had your hauline twist so bad that it can't be pulled through the hauler then you understand the benefits of a swivel. Like someone said above this can happen on traversing pitches, or if the pig is free hanging on steep terrain and blowing around in the wind, particularly when flagging the ledge.

For a mostly short straight up wall you'll probly be fine wihout it.
