I will be in the north Phoenix/Scottsdale area next week. Are there any top-rope climbs near there? Or withing an hour's drive or so? Wouldn't mind bouldering but no way can I bring a crash pad with. I've been to pinnacle peak but don't remember and top-ropable cimbs there. Climbing gym would would be last resort, I'd rather be outside.

Most climbs in the McDowells and surrounding crags are lead and not toproped. Generally because it is difficult to get to the top of a formation without actually climbing it.

Within an hour or so you can get to Queen Creek and it may have some crags that you can TR; again, it may require climbing to the top on an easier route to set a top rope on a harder climb.
