I’m at the “age” (Over 35) and I have to go and get a physical exam for insurance. I have not been for a “check up” since I was a kid. I have 1 serious question… Am I guaranteed to get a finger in my ass? I really don’t like the idea of it, is it really necessary a younger person? I'm hoping I can Opt out of it till i'm older.

No, it's not guaranteed. IF you are in a high risk group for prostate cancer, and IF you are concerned about it, you can ask your doctor to simply draw a PSA test. A blood test that looks for a specific antigen that can indicate prostate cancer.

The only down side to the manual probe for prostate hypertrophy is when you notice the doctor has BOTH of his hands on your shoulders.

Lucky for you that you were born a guy. You couldn't handle a female exam. Kathy

If it's free, count your self lucky. I have to pay my masseuse extra for a prostate "exam".

There's been an ad running recently .... "Embarrassed about your prostate exam? Imagine how your doctor feels." It's not a big deal. And, don't be worried about your reaction to it. Just get it done if the doctor thinks it should be done.

Hey boy, don't listen to this shitz. Ain't no fun. Hurts a bit, touchin' the old prostate. But ante up you gotta do it, especially over 50. Tigerlilley isn't a guy so I don't know how she would know you couldn't handle a female exam. Remember with certain jobs the risk of finding something wrong goes up, take that into consideration.

At least a rectal exam does not involve metal instruments. Kathy I hate to burst your bubble there kiddo but a prostate exam is nothing like a rectal exam. Just for comparison of penetration and discomfort a rectal exam would be like having your labia examined, a prostate exam would be like when the gynecologist inserts the speculum. Oh and a prostate exam dose involve metal instruments if the doc thinks something seems even a bit abnormal. I think that when comparing the two procedures (gynecological and prostate) I think it comes down to how much you’re able to relax the different areas of your body. I have a female friend who has had a RECTAL* exam and she tells me that it was much more uncomfortable to have the RECTAL* exam than to have a gynecological exam. EDIT *I’m all in favor of letting your posts stand as you wrote them but due to a sever lack of reading comprehension and the inability of certain forum members to finish reading what consists of less than a paragraph of written word I am editing my post. I hope this dissuades any future confusion.
