Hi, I'm just getting into bouldering and this is the closest thing I could find. I live in laguna niguel, and I would like to try this place out, but the directions are very vague, is there anyone who could help me find this place and maybe give me some bouldering tips? Thanks.

Saw your post and would like to give you some tips about the area. I also live in south OC (San Clemente) and am pretty annoyed about the crag situation here. I have been to the 5-minute crag that you were posting on, but it's not really something you want to boulder. If your a strong boulderer, I would suggest Corona Del Mar (weather permitting) there are a lot of quality problems, but none of it is easy. Secondly, Ortega Falls has a decent amount of boulders and has a larger range of difficulty. Both areas can be found in the Southern California Bouldering Guide. Outside of OC Rubidox is the best bet within an hour or so. Let me know if you need anymore help. -Brian

Thank you for your reply. I have never bouldered before, and I tried to (unsuccessfully) find the 5 minute crag, so could you tell me what's wrong with that area? It's the closest thing to me.

It sounds like it is a sport climbing route, not a bouldering area. I'm moving to laguna beach this summer from Utah and I'm also looking for good places to sport climb/boulder. Doesn't seem like theres too many places around that area. The best place to climb in SoCal is probably going to be Joshua Tree national park. Thats a 2.5 hour drive away though.

Supposedly the pirate's cove in newport beach is great, and the drive is only about half an hour max.

havent tried to find 5 min crag but from what ive heard its just a sandy sport route, pirates cove is the best place to boulder around there. i live in mission viejo and its only a 30 min drive from my place cant imagine it would be any worse from laguna niguel. Ortega falls is the best place to do some top roping but during winter and spring the falls actually have water going down them so everythings wet
