My climbing partners and I visiting Linville Gorge for the first time this weekend. Does anyone have GPS coordinates to any of the climbs in the Amphitheater area? Ditto for any track logs of the approach trails or online topo maps. Thank you.

I suggest you purchase a North Carolina guidebook if you are planning to climb in the gorge. Although even with the guide you still may have problems finding a specific climb depending on your route finding skills.

Thanks. I've ordered the "SELECTED CLIMBS IN NORTH CAROLINA" book but it hasn't arrived. We've been forewarned that routefinding is a bit tricky. We're hoping to maximize our climbing time hence the request for GPS info.

There is a linville gorge yahoo group that might be able to help you out. You can check the files section for GPS coordinates or just post a question to the forum.

I have a file that I cleaned up to my liking from the aforementioned group. I did this over a year or two ago, though, so it may be old...
It doesn't contain individual routes, though, just areas.

The group above will have the approaches, but may be hard to find. They are mostly hikers so they list the trails, but some of these are used to the climbs.
The amphitheater is easy to identify via satellite maps and with a little effort you could create your own points for the individual climbs.
